Tetanus Shot

Has anyone gotten a tetanus booster since you've had fibromyalgia?  If so, did you have any weird or unusual reactions?

 

I need to get one, but I'm a little leery with the way my body seems to react to everything.  I do just fine with the flu vaccine, though, so I'm hopeful that I'll do okay with the tetanus.  Thanks.

I put off getting one for a long time, because I was so afraid of a reaction. I asked if they could put it in my hip, but the doctor said it needed to go in the arm. I think for awhile I imagined that it was causing me problems, because I had a flare about a few weeks after that, but realisitically, I think it was "just" a normal flare. I don't get the flu shot or any other vaccinations out of concerns, but the tetanus seems to do okay. I work outside alot, and felt I just had to take the chance. I say go for it.

The problems that go with having tetanus vs. the small problems for the shot make the shot VERY worthwhile!!! Tetanus is still a fatal disease in many parts of the world and it is present in the soil we walk on. Trying to "catch up" with anti-toxin for lock jaw while your body slowly shuts down is not a very pleasant way to die. I'd recommend the shot.

 I got a tetanus shot a few months ago. I have fibromyalgia and mixed connective tissue disease. I have been putting off getting a tetanus shot for a long time but got bit by a stray cat and had no choice but to get one. I did not have any weird reactions but I can tell you that my arm was so sensitive for over 2 weeks. My arm hurt a lot and had a hard time sleeping so I took some darvocet that I had left over from a hip injury. I am sensitive to shots even the flu shot I get pain from. I have a flu shot tomorrow and I know my arm will get red puffy and painful for a week. Overall...... I would recommend the tetanus shot.  Not sure what meds you are on but if you can maybe some Ibuprofen for pain or something stronger to help with sleep. I couldn't lay on my arm for 2 weeks.

I haven't gotten a tetanus booster since getting fibro, but I have had 2 of the 3 HPV vaccine shots since then. I reacted no differently to them than I did to every injection I'd gotten in the past. This was badly, unfortunately, but not any worse than before the fibro or any worse than they generally warn people it might be.

Tetnus shots have never bothered me....probably because I never gave it a thought that they would!  And, with my flu shot, I didn't even know I had had a shot.  My arm wasn't the least bit sore.  yeah

Thanks for the encouragement (and the tough love, Jeannie smilewinkgrin ). I got the vaccine this afternoon.  So far, I just have a sore arm....

I'm gun shy with flu shots and haven't gotten one in about 13 years. My husband and I used to give them to each other, and one year, it hurt soooooo bad when he gave it. I think he hit a nerve. Over the next months, the pain traveled up my arm, into my shoulders, neck, chest and back and took me years to get over it. but that winter, I got a horrible influenza, followed by pneumonia and 2 ear infections. That's when my FMS really started up.
So you see, I'm skeeered of flu shots!
I'm glad you got the tentanus shot Austen. The more you use your arm, the sooner the soreness will go away. Now you can feel good about going out and stepping on a rusty nail. ;)

Did someone mention my favourite mixed libation... a "Rusty Nail"? That is one thing I really miss since becoming diabetic! It was my bestest thing to have on an evening out. (sigh...!) Those were the days, when we were young and foolish and didn't know diddly squat!
