I was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety and Panic Disorder by a Psychologist long before I knew I had Fibro. It's awful and I have been in ER with it a couple of times. My husband told me something that I thought was very interesting. He's a Paramedic and he said many people end up in the ER thinking they are having heart attacks when in fact it's a panic attack. He has talked me through several situations.
My Rheumy said she believes my anxiety is as big a problem as my Fibro and she wants me to be treated by Pshchiotrist. I work 30+ hours a week and it's so hard to keep Fibro pain and anxiety in control at work. Time to see doctors is such an issue as well.
I'm on Cymbalta, which I believe REALLY helped my anxiety. In fact I was on it for anxiety first and learned that it is also given to treat Fibro. I hate to think of what I'd be like without Cymbalta.
I feel newly diagnosed with Fibro (Dec 07), I see you are brand new at being diagnosed. If you haven't... see the Fibro diagnossis (I think it's Fibro 101) at the top of the Fibro page for the symptoms. It's amazing how many things I have and it might explain a lot of things for you.
Take care,
Tricia
