Good afternoon,
I was recently diagnosed (like a couple days ago) with fibromyalgia from my rheumatologist. I have been seeing him for a couple of years ever since I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease. I am actually on the healing well's crohn's blogs as well. It may sound strange, but finding out I have fibromyalgia actually came as a bit of relief to me. I have been trying to figure out why all these symptoms were occurring and was beginning to think that none of them were related, that God just hated me and decided to curse me with every disease imaginable. I was first diagnosed with anemia, then Crohn's, then periodic limb movement disorder (just like RLS but only at night), generalized anxiety disorder, chronic fatigue, obcessive compulsive disorder, inflammatory arthritis, light sensitivity, night sweats, chronic nightmares, possible narcolepsy, sleep apnea, some sort of REM disorder, dry eyes and mouth, a heart valve regurgitation thing, bladder incontinence, and the list goes on and on... At 27, i felt like I was 87 and was really starting to get pissed!
My rheumatologist performed the 18 tension point test and I think I had pain in all but 2 of them! I know that is not an absolute diganostic test, but with all my other ailments, and basically feeling bad all the time, he diagnosed me. Is it weird to view this as a relief, that all of this pain and suffering is stemming from the same central nervous system dysfunction?
Well, I dont really know what my goal is in writing other than that I want to say thank you for all your helpful and informative posts. I have read several of the ones listed under Fibromyalgia 101, and am grateful for them. I am also anxious to just be blessed with the ability to talk with other women who are just like me and feel like every day is a struggle. I mean, sometimes I just feel like such a complainer!!!
Well, thank you for letting me vent a little. I look forward to hearing from some of you and to continue communication in the future.
best,
Katie
