Have any of you had to apply for disability over this? I have been out of work ofr 6mo now with no real hope of things getting better.

I haven't, but heard of others who have. I've been meaning to get services from the student disability place at my university.

I haven't yet, but I might have to in the future. Currently I'm working with an organization that tries to help rehabilitate disabled people and find them jobs. It's a long process though and I'm still waiting to be properly evaluated(originally contacted them back in July). If it turns out that they can't help me I will have to apply for disability.

I am on social security disability but I also have more illnesses than fibromyalgia.  If you type in "fibromyalgia disability" in the Google search box at the top of the page, you will see all that has been written about that on this forum.  Hope that helps  you.

Sherrine, I've typed that into the search place many times and it never goes into any of the things that it brings up.  I was wondering if it is my computer or if anyone else is having trouble with the search?

Hey Phwootie, I successfully filed for social security and disability from employer's insurance.

Before filing, I met with an attorney specializing in disability. I only met with him once and he gave me recommendations for fililng. I belive his advice was the reason I was successful.

The process is lengthy and takes several months. If I can answer any specific questions, please let me know.

Yes, I have filed for Soc. Sec. Disability and it has not been fun. I have been denied twice now and the next step is hiring a lawyer. I'm on the home stretch. I filed back in June, and it has been a very long process. I have been fortunate to have good people helping me with this. They have a person through the county I live in that has guided me through the whole process. I have been out of work since last May.

I will be referred to a lawyer that goes by your income (HA! what income!?) Have had to get help through the county/state just to live. I don't know how I have made it this far, but I have. I keep telling myself the battle with Soc. Sec. is almost over, win or lose and I can do this! I have broken down a few times from being so overwhelmed. I would start with calling Soc. Sec. and ask questions. They have been helpful also.

Hello, I've been away from this site for a while but have found my way back.

I too file for Social Security disability and was denied.

I have an attorney who is handling my appeal process.  She told me that all my conditions (fibro, osteoarthritis, degenerative joint and disc disease, hypertension, depression and anxiety) qualify me for ssd but social security still denied me.  My attorney said their decision was based on my age alone (48). I started the process in January.  The attorney told me that 90% of the applications for ssd are denied of those only 20% go thru the appeal process.  Here in Michigan that process can take up to 2 years.  My medical bills continue to come in.  My attorney gave me a letter to send to the various medical billers explaining my situation and that she feels my case is a definate win but it will take time to go thru the process.

I now wish I would have started with an attorney to handle my initial application.  So do yourself a favor and seek a legal advisior

ps  I forgot to add.  If you have filed and have been waiting for a decision, contact your Congressmans office .  They are there to help and can help by requesting that your case be expedited.

I live in Canada and was working full-time as the senior minister of a church until January 08 when my chronic pain and fatigue became so severe that I could no longer work AT ALL. (I didn't know at the time it was fibromyalgia) I have short-term disability for 6 months and I took that off, then returned gradually to half-time work. I only have about 4 hours/ day when I'm "good" (it's a very high-stress job with long hours, often beginning at 8 am and going to 9 or 10 pm).

I have been denied part-time LTD twice now, but that was before I got the fibromyalgia diagnosis from a rheumatologist. So now I have to appeal AGAIN with that. It's very frustrating. I was actually just about to springboard my career - I published a self-help book last November and was going to move into keynote speaking, workshop leading, etc. But instead I ended up flat on my back. And trying to CONVINCE a stupid insurance company that I'm not just someone who doesn't want to work! Bah!

Sorry...that was a bit more than you asked for - lol.

I also have a lawyer I'm working with cuz my husband is a lawyer and it's one of his partners. So I'd like to say that helps but we'll see! So far not so good. ... but I think if I have to sue the Ins. Co. (which I so will) it will really help then!
