I can SO relate to this!! My mouth (especially TONGUE) is driving me crazy. It all started with increased thirst and a slight white coating. I thought it was thrush due to my asthma and allergy meds...and an antibiotic I had just finished. This has been going on for well over a month now, maybe even two? Anyway, I've been to three doctors and a dentist. All of them conclude that it is NOT thrush (though they didn't culture me even when I asked), or diabetes, but rather due to GERD. My GERD is something awful right now, I'll admit. I'm seeing a Rhuemy (sp?) tomorrow. Hopefully she'll have a few tests for me, as I know that GERD doesn't rule out everything else, but I'll try not to go into the office with a disease set in mind. Know what I mean? Doctors are only human and go on what you tell them (or so I've experienced). I have the "magic" mouth wash (3 meds), but find that it is a little too harsh. The dentist told me to lay off of it for a while because it is causing some gum annoyance. Other than that, she said my mouth looks fine. My throat is a little red, but again...she said her gut feeling (no pun intended ;)) is that it is GERD or a GI problem.
I can say that plain yogurt helps a little. Also, biotene mouth rinse and tooth paste. I do have an RX for Xanax and find that it does help when I am in a lot of pain. The mind kicks into over gear when the pain increases... The xanax takes the edge off. Traditional pain killers (vicodin)? They do nothing for the tongue pain. Nada.
Anyway, I hope you are feeling better! I've had to cut out soda and coffee. Just the mention of rum makes me jealous. I want some. You always want what you can't have!
