Hello - an introduction thread

Hello Forum! My name is Wookie Luvvah and I too suffer from chronic pain and all the good stuff that goes along with it.

I am currently 39 (turn 40 this summer) and getting ready to work with some new doctors in 2009 to see if I can get a better handle on my pain, fatigue, and mental fuzziness which has been growing increasingly worse this past year.

Let's see - a little about myself. I was diagnosed with Fibrositis way back around 1982 (I was 13). Such a long time ago and boy has the research and acknowledgments of this condition grown by leaps and bounds. Somewhere around the age of 19-20 I decided to flush my crazy amounts of meds down the toilet and try to manage my condition through diet and exercise. For the most part it has helped (although I've no clue what it's like to not be in pain) but I've lost the balance and as a result I'm dealing with more issues.

I've set a goal of getting this back to a manageable state this year (or at least in the right direction) and since I enjoy message boards, I thought I would search one out on this topic as I may need to reach out to "those in the know" or possibly be able to share my experiences to help those new to this diagnosis.

Anywho - that's who I am (at least the cliff notes version). Looking forward to 2009!

I'd love to be getting some rest, but my recent insomnia is another one of fibro's lovely gifts...

I was resting, but usually I get up 2-4 times a night with pain or just can't sleep. Hope you are able to get things back on track in '09. You've come to a great place. Everyone here is great and always willing to reach out and help each other. Hope you hang around.

wow-diagnosed at 13! that's so young..i am so sorry you've been struggling with this for so long. i am really glad you found us, though!

Hi, Wookie, and welcome!  I'm so glad you found us.  I, also, was diagnosed with "fibrositis" back in 1988.  I had never heard of it but I sure know about it now!  LOL

 

As Marlee said, check out the Fibro 101 thread.  There are links to good info about fibro.  Also read back posts and ask questions.  That's what we are here for. 

 

You have come to a great place.  We have good people here that will help you live a full and enjoyable life with fibro!  The bonus is that we really do care about one another!  I'm happy to meet you and hope to hear more from you soon.

My name is Aux and I'm fairly new here too.

In the summer of 2006, I was exposed to some highly infectious bacteria as well as virus. As a result, I developed Tolosa-Hunt Syndrome. Most people respond well to steroids....I didn't. A few months later, I developed FM. My physician from the Mayo Clinic said FM was secondary to the Tolosa-Hunt syndrome.

Interestingly, he said that someone with a trauma or disease that seriously affects C 1-4 will often later develop FM.

At any rate, I'm now disabled. The last two years have been miserable and I can only imagine 20+ years. Let all hope for a better 2009
