Just checking in to see how things are going.  Glad there weren't any changes over night and things are progressing well.

They only had to put one stent in. It was 85% blocked. He has other places that they are going to have to keep an eye on. The doc gave me a picture of his arteries so I will show it to him the next time he tries to tell me he can eat anything he wants cause he takes lipitor.

 

I hated to leave him but I am exhausted. He has to lay flat for so long and then they will put him up a little etc for six hours. I know they won't leave him alone to sleep but I hope he gets some rest. He will come home tomorrow if all goes well, hard to believe, huh???

 

I"m going to play with Krissy and go to bed.

Marlee,

I am so glad things came out well for Ken! I'm sure you will stay on his case about eating healthier. My dh is one that won't go to see a doctor. I am always afraid for him because his father has had health problems too.

Hope you & Krissy have fun & that you get a good soothing rest tonight. You've had a long couple days so I know you must be exhausted. Let us know how things go tomorrow. Take care

Marlee, I'm so glad to hear that things are going well for you and Ken. 

 

I know how hard it is to get your spouse to eat right.  I stay after Larry all the time but he doesn't listen.  Yet he keeps saying "I don't never want to go through open heart surgery again."

 

Maybe Ken will listen to you.  I know what a scare you've been through.  

 

You and Ken are still in our prayers.  Take care of yourself and get some rest today.  

 

I bet Krissy missed you while you were gone.  Give her a hug for me.

I'm so happy to hear that things are a little better.  I will continue to send my prayers your way.  Have fun with Krissy; pets can be so comforting at a time like this.

What is it with husbands and not listening to us when we are only trying to keep them healthy.  My husband has such bad eating habits and I've tried to tell him he needs to watch what he eats (heart problems in his family along with diabetes) but he just doesn't listen and accuses me of calling him fat.  He cares so much of his weight in his stomach and I just don't think that I could handle an emergency.  I guess I can only keep trying!

Due to the fog I must have forgotten about the truck that ran over me til I woke up this morning hurting from head to toe. I think now that it's over and he is fixed it caught up to me. I am so very relieved cause I have known for months  he wasn't himself. Like I told QT Karen the other day Ken and I don't have to talk to each other to know how the other is feeling.

 

He has been up this morning. I didn't ask him if he had eaten but I'm sure he has. I don't know what orders he will come home with. When my sister had stents put in I think lifting was her only restriction. I know we are both going to stop eating like two teens at a slumber party.

 

I hope this morning will be my last trip to the Prairie Heart Institute for a long, long time.

Oh, my poor Marlee! I haven't been on for a couple of days, I had no idea you were going thru this. You know you are always in my prayers, I will pray that you and Ken are in your own home tonight safe and sound.

I have had the same prob w/ my DH and what he can eat. He's Type 1 diabetic and really hasn't taken it as seriously as he should. This last scare finally shook him up. When he makes up his mind to do something, he is very strong and focused, but to get him to that point oh boy. He does not use salt now, no Pepsi, finally listening to what I have said for yrs. The ppl in the hosp asked him if he stuck to a diabetic diet, and he gave a silly remark, like he is fine. I told them what he eats and drinks, they said he needed to change or this could be worse. The smile wasn't so steady then. Hopefully, this is the wake-up call Ken needs.

As far as that nurse is concerned, report her. I had to report a nurse yrs ago, a real wise***, not what I needed when I was so sick. The past few times for my DH, my son or myself, we have been blessed w/ the most wonderful nurses, men & women. They still stay in my thoughts for their caring and kindness. And I have reported that, also.

You and Ken will remain in my prayers and my heart.

I'm so happy that the doctors listened to you.  You are so fortunate to have found the problem and have it corrected.  I'm glad everything will be fine with Ken.

 

You, now, take care of yourself!  That's an order!

I know Marlee, when I'm under tremendous stress the bad fog and pain goes off the charts.

Now one step at a time with Ken and getting him healed. I'm sure Krissy will give him lots of get well kisses!

It took them forever to get him checked out and everything done yesterday so we didn't get home til about 3:00. He can't lift over 5lbs and has to take it easy for a few days but that's about it. He will have to take Plavix now. I am so happy his body told him something was wrong and he listened to it before things got worse. I know some people don't get that chance.

 

Every muscle in my body is sore from head to toe. Some of it is from being so tense, I think, but the rest is from walking so much and sitting in positions I'm not use to. I'm still amazed at this DD and how little it takes to make our muscles sore.

 

I think we will both be resting for a couple of days.

Marlee, I'm so glad your back home safe and sound.  You and hubby need to take a few days and do nothing but rest.

 

They put my dh on Plavix and he was alergic to it.  Broke out all over his body.  So he has to do with 4 coated aspirins a day.  It worries me that he can't take Plavix but I just have to trust in God.

 

Hopefully Ken will feel better than he has for a long time.  In meantime enjoy the slow pace for a while.

Thank God Ken listened to his body and his DW. This has been such a rough time for both of you, I'm glad that you are both home and able to relax and calm down a bit. You both are ready for a new start, careful of what you eat and drink, exercise together and savor this 2nd chance.

I'm so happy that things have worked out for the two of you. I know how much he means to you. My prayers are still w/ both of you.

Take care of yourself, too. This has been a strain on BOTH of you.

Glad to hear you are both home safe & sound. I hope you both get the rest that you need today. It has been a long and stressful couple of days, so I know you must be hurting. I am glad everything was caught in time and Ken got that 2nd chance. I will keep you both in my prayers that you both continue to feel well and things will get back to normal at home.

*breathes a massive sigh of relife* Marlee,thank goodness it turned out well.When i had mine put in,I couldn't lift for about a week and no stairs, and no whoopee for 4 weeks.By the time I was cleared to, I told my cardio doc to be on stand-by,cause I was going home to test the new engine and blow the crude out of the fuel injectors.He laughed so hard,he droppeds my chart. devil

I am glad that Ken got to come home as soon as he did. You will take good care of him I know that.

I like what you said about showing him the xray when he wants to eat unhealthy foods. You go girl.

It is amazing, it's almost like drive thru heart repair. I haven't looked at all his paper work to see what it says about whoopi, not been on either of our minds. Four weeks huh, with my rib being hurt and now this we may set a new record for us. devil Were you afraid to do it at first Wyld??? I was afraid before he had the pacemaker put in cause his heart rate was so low and after the pacemaker was put in I was a little afraid so I'm sure it will be awhile before I will really relax again.

 

Karen I didn't know it til Ken told me but there is a before and after picture of the artery they put the stent in. Kinda like this is your heart on fatty foods and this is your heart after it was fixed. Like the commercials they use to have on for your brain on drugs.

 

He was up playing poker on the computer for awhile so he is getting better. smilewinkgrin

 

They gave him the plavix in the hos and he didn't have a reaction so I hope he doesn't.

 

Wouldn't it be nice if fibro was that easy to fix???

Hi Marlee,
I had a stent place dabout 2-1/2 years ago. I had 65% block in my LAD, lower anterior descending artery, which I learned later is nicknamed "the widow maker". I had absolutely NO symptoms whatsoever, nothing. My doctor asked me to have a stress test, because of my family history, my dad died at 51 of a heart attack and I was a smoker. I quit the day I had the angioplasty. I have always exercised, but I did smoke and I am about 25 pounds overweight, so I did have risk factors. The cardiologist told me smoking was much, much worse than the weight. I was put on Plavix the day I had the stent placed and have taken it since and will be on it for the rest of my life. I have had no problems with it. He will have to notify any doctor if he has any type of procedure, to find out if he needs to stop the Plavix before the procedure. Of course, he needs to talk to his cardiologist first. I was told that the first year, I could not go off the Plavix at all, not for anything. Other than that, I had no restrictions. I've had no problems since. I've had yearly stress tests and all is okay.

I can relate about the husband's and how stubborn they can be. My husband had a heart attack, although very minor, in 2000. He's on heart meds and yet does not watch his diet all that well. Thankfully, the heart meds and cholesterol meds are doing their job...his lipid profiles are wonderful. Okay, he does walk every night after work. I just wish he was better at watching what he ate.

Marlee, you take care of yourself now, rest up and give little Krissy some great big hugs. I too find it amazing how much pain I can get and it can come on so quickly from going through a stressful day, or a bad night's sleep...just amazes me how our muscles can be so painful and cause so much fatigue. Anyway, glad to hear he's doing well and you take good care.

Miriam can they find a blocked artery with a stress test??? I had one where they use some kind of drug cause I didn't have the energy to do the treadmill when they were looking for the cause of my fatigue.

 

Ken was suppose to have a stress test last month but his doc office cancelled the appointment and rescheduled for today, actually. We found out at the hos that the doc was in India. The doc that was on call and did his procedure wasn't happy that he had not seen a cardio since having the pacemaker put in two months ago. Ken had told them when they called to cancel the app that he wasn't feeling well. Needless to say we have decided to stay with the doc that did the procedure, we both really liked him.

 

Ken was up early this morning and Krissy wore him out so he is taking a nap or watching the inauguration in the bedroom.

 

I'm not quite as sore today as I was but I feel foggy. I need to get in gear and see what needs to be done the worse around here. I miss my helper, guess I didn't realize how much he was helping out. Ah shoot today was trash day. Believe me he didn't do all this before I got sick.

If you are having chest pains or short of breath really push your doctor.  My husband complained of chest pains for two years.  He had numerous stress tests, several electrocardiograms, and two echocardiograms and died suddenly of blocked arteries.  These tests don't always show what is going on.

 

The doctors told us it was just stress but they were wrong.  We liked what we were hearing so didn't insist on an angiogram.  Hindsight is 20/20.

Angiogram is the way to find blocked arteries and now they have one that is not invasive, but my cardiologist recommended I get the invasive one, just because, if there was a blocked artery, they could stent it right then and I wouldn't have to come back for another procedure.

With the stress test, what then can see are subtle changes in your heart rate, heart beat, possibly chest pains from the exertion of the stress test, so not actually "see" blocked arteries, but signs that would tell them that chances are good that there are blocked arteries. As I said, I never had any symptoms. Looking back, who knows? With all the pain I've had over the past 20 years, maybe I did have some chest pain and just attributed it to FM? I really don't know. Truthfully, I feel no different since I had the stent placed and since I quit smoking. I wish I did feel better, it would have been easier to quit smoking! But it's been 2-1/2 years and I won't go back to smoking, this I know.

Marlee, take it slow. As you know, all the little chores around the house will wait for you. Just take care of yourself and enjoy little Krissy? How is she doing by the way?
