Newbie...wanting medication/physician advice

Hi,

I have had chronic pain for many years, but was just "diagnosed" with Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue about 3 years ago.

I have an appointment next week to see my family doc, adn want to talk to him about getting a prescription for myself...and I am scared to death. I'm afraid he will look at me like I am a drug addict...or look down his nose and tell me I need to stop trying to practice medicine.

(Please read the forum rules before posting. Taking medications prescribed to others is not only dangerous but illegal. We care about your well being so please talk to your doctor about a prescription for you. Oh, sorry I lost your purple. )

Hi Donniesgirl,

First of all, welcome to the forum. I guess that you could tell your doctor that you had some vicodin left over from a previous prescription and that you tried it and it helped you. I don't think it would be wise to tell them that you took somebody elses prescription. But now I am telling you to lie and that isn't right either. But I take norco, which is a stronger vicodin and it does help me so I know how you feel. It does give a little burst of energy when taken in low doses. I hope that you are able to get what you need.

I can't believe your doctor told you to take acai juice. It seems not too long ago that they found something wrong with it. I can't for the life of me remember what it was. But something was going on. It may have been in the berry itself. I have tried a couple of the juices and they didn't do a thing for me, plus they are very expensive.

We have a thread called fibro101 which has a lot of information on it. You would benefit I am sure from reading it. Also it talks about a supplement called malic acid with magnesium in it. I take that along with vitamin D3 and it works well for me, even with the medications that I take the malic acid/magnesium really helped. And it is not expensive at all.

Thank you so much for the replies.  I will use the advice you have given.  I think I will take some printouts from this forum and others I have found to show my doctor.  Also, I will check out Fibro 101!  :)

Well, I went to my family doctor today, and filled him in on the Vicodin issue.  He flat out said "No" to prescribing it to me.  He basically said he wouldn't prescribe it for fibromyalgia to anyone, even though I told him it had worked wonders for my life!  I have felt better taking it than I have in years!  He said that he didn't want me to have 2 problems...having fibromyalgia, and being addicted to a drug.  So....he gave my Lyrica, which I took this afternoon, and feel like I have taken two Xanax (which I am also prescribed, but rarely take).  I could lie down right now and go to sleep!  And...to top it off, I looked at our insurance and they won't allow me to have greater than a 30 day prescription, because it is a controlled substance, and he has written the prescription for me to take 2 per day!  :(

I'm am very discouraged.  I have an appointment with a rheumatologist in a few weeks, but have already seen one a few years ago to no benefit.  I'm wondering if I should try to find a pain management clinic?  Any advice?

Hi and welcome to this wonderful place. I was taking lyrica and the sleepy part does wear off after awhile. good luck. My dr told me she would not perscribe any thing that is habit forming to any one with fibro.
