Hey everyone! I've been browsing the posts while researching for myself and decided to join in. I haven't been to the doctor yet because fibro never crossed my mind. Multiple people have mentioned it to me and I finally looked into it and holy cow! I fit in with a LOT of the symptoms. I've been diagnosed with tendinitis in my wrists, knees and ankles but that never seemed like that was it. I'm now 26 and over the years I've gotten progressively worse. I always have swelling in my wrists, knees, and ankles. My neck and shoulders have had a constant feeling somewhere between burning and stabbing for months on end now. When my boyfriend jokes around and tickles me I scream because it feels like i'm being stabbed, and I get the same feeling if I scratch in some places. His reaction is always "I barely touched you!". I can sleep for 8 hours and wake up feeling like I'm ready for another 8, which would be nice on the mornings I feel like a scarecrow stuffed with rocks. Some nights I wake up with severe cramps in my outer thighs and it's nearly impossible to get comfortable again. My back muscles feel contracted all the time not to mention the sciatica. And sometimes I feel like I should take a porta potty around with me between the IBS and having to pee non stop!!! I even have to make sure I keep my hands low on the steering wheel when I drive, otherwise my shoulders burn. There's so much more that I experience regularly but I already feel bad for rambling on. It felt SO nice to get that all off my chest because I really don't talk about it much. I realize that none of you can diagnose me, and I truly do want to see a doctor once I get health insurance all set up, but do these things i've just vented about sound like i'm in the right place? Thanks!!

Welcome, Justbeyou!  It is important that you see a doctor and get a diagnosis.  There are other illnesses that have the same symptoms as fibromyalgia so the doctor will want to rule out the other illnesses first before giving you the diagnosis of fibromyalgia.  I see a board certified Internist but many members see a rheumatologist for their fibro.

 

Be sure to check out the Fibro 101 thread...the second thread on the forum.  There are links to good information about fibromyalgia including a list of symptoms and also a link called What Else Could It Be.

Yes, Fibromyalgia is constantly competing I'll say with other diseases and/or disabilities and /or illnesses. You should get some blood work done from your dr. The ones I had done were Vitamine D, Arthritis, Thyriod, and Inflmation. I see a Rhuematalogist next month. Thank God to because I'm tired of getting stabbed in the shoulders and feet and legs and chest and anywhere else it pleases.(rolls eyes). Yes I have Tendonitis in my hands and wrists as well. True your doc. might not know about Fibro. like mine. (rolls eyes again)

But do please get some of the blood work done and ask for a referral to a Rhuemy. Be persistant.

Also you might ask your doc. for a sleep study to make sure you done have any Sleep Apnea like me. I just found out shortly after my surgery in Feb. 2009.... That rules out alot of stuff even though it's a little annoying to try and go to sleep in a strange place in a strange bed and with wires sticking to you....lol

Oh also I forgot to tell you also. Go see a Ciropractor that will help you with your siatica problems and give you some light stretches that will help with the possible Fibro. Mine has done worders for my Bursitis in my shoulders and neck.

Hi and Welcome Just Be!!!

You've come to the right place to learn more and ask questions about Fibro.  Be sure to check out Fibro 101, as Sherrine suggested.  I've learned alot from that thread.

I wouldn't wish Fibro on my worst enemy (hopefully I don't have any enemies :-) ).  Its a horrible syndrome filled with pain, exhaustion and confusion.  But for all of the bad things that come with it there are good things, too.  Fibro has taught me to slow down and appreciate the "little" things in life.

The folks here are very willing to help and really really care about eachother.  We are a family that shares a lot in common.

I'm sorry you're not feeling well and I hope when you get your insurance you'll get to a doctor as soon as you can to rule out any other nasty diseases. 

Again, welcome and keep posting.

Hi again and thanks for the responses! I do see a psychiatrist regularly who has me on an antidepressant and adderall for ADHD. He's also an insomnia treatment specialist and treats patients with sleep apnea (my aunt is one of them) and he's already ruled that out for me. Well, diagnoses or not I still feel like poop all the time :( and I must say all this rainy Chicago weather is NOT helping. Combine that with that time of the month and a 50 hour work week <sigh>. But hey, it does help to know I'm not crazy or weird and other people share my combination of issues. So thanks guys!
