Need some input about effexor

Hi you all know that we have been trying to find out whats up with my daughter. They want to put her on effexor. I am nervous about putting her on any antidepressants, but if it will help I will.  I have the script filled but haven't given it to her yet. Can any of you please tell me if it helped much, or if it didn't help. Thankyou

Effexor has a pretty good track record. It appears to give the person not only an emotional lift and pain relief, it also gives many people a kind of "get up and get going" kind of feeling. Makes one want to accomplish stuff or get moving. For others this translates into a kind of "antsy" feeling. Everyone is different.

The best person to discuss this with is your pharmacist. They understand all of the nuances of the meds they dispense and can be a wealth of knowledge.

I have been taking effexor for about 13 years or more. I must say that it has worked well for me. And I tried many others before I went on the effexor. Is she going to be taking pills, or time release capsules? When I took the pills, if I missed one, I didnt' feel good, so I went to the capsules. They work much better. I take 375mg each day and that is the highest dose that one can take. I also take abilify and xanax with it. The abilify has helped me tremondously.

If you have any more questions about effexor, just post, I will answer what I can for you. To me it is a good antidepressant.

I took Effexor. It is a norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake inhibitor (as far as I can remember). It is a good thing if she will continue to take it and will not forget. If I ever forgot my pill, I would have terrible pains in my head. Effexor patients call it brain zaps I think. It is as if you turn your head and the brain comes along a split second after. I felt nauseaus and dizzy and like I was car sick all day long if I forgot it and fine if I didn't forget it. When going off effexor I took prozac to help me wean off it. That helped. So I would say that effexor is not for everyone. But if youre daughter is depressed, an anti depressant will probably make her feel better. There was a time that I could not live without them.

I have been on Effexor for a couple of years now. I have trouble taking antidepressants because of side effects but I can handle this one. BUT...I take a very tiny dose....37.5 mg. It's an introductory dose but I've never been able to go higher without more side effects.

Just make sure you keep an eye on her for any dramatic changes and keep a good line of communication open. She needs to tell you if she's feeling strange in any way.

I'm on Effexor right now. Going on it was really hard, I had terrible nausea, but that went away in a week. I've been on it since August and it's done some good. I haven't noticed a big impact on my pain, however it does help a lot with the emotional side of this disease. Just as long as she is aware of the possible side effects of any antidepressent and you both keep an eye out for them, she should be fine. Just make sure she keeps taking it consistently, the withdrawls are disconcerting. I get dizzy and very out of it. Hopefully that helps!

I forgot to mention I'm on a very high dose, 150 mg once a day.

I took it several years ago the only problem was I did not have any emotion went to my grandmothers funeral and could not even cry. I dont think it was helpful o me. It also made me get dizzy spells.I truly believe that sometimes you need your emotions to cope with things. I think that when Im really in a bad place a good cry helps...

I have been on Effexor for about 4 years now.  I also am on a high dosage 150 mg a day.  It seems to work for me.  I was on Celexa first, but after a week I was feeling SO SAD!!!!  I called my doctor right away and she had me wean off of it.

The only side effect I seem to have experienced is horrible nightmares.  Very vivid and frightening.  That stopped after a month or so.

Baloo, take Chutz' advice.  No matter what your daughter takes, keep an eye on her and make sure she knows it is important to let you know how she feels.
