Hi ,wow you guys are awesome,the support you give out so freely..thanks for that . maybe, you can help ? Does anyone have bladder stuff going on ? My urine has taken on a funny,strong odor,kind of peculair. I drinks tons of water every day. God bless you all !

Have you been eating any asparagus lately? It can do that to urine. So can some multivitamins. Just a guess on my part... Also, is it clear or cloudy? Pain upon urination? May want to check with the doc, just to be sure.

Antibiotics make it smell funny too. But most importantly, so does infection. Keep an eye on it. (Or a nose on it, as the case may be:)

Brocolli, cauliflower, and brussel sprouts can cause an odor.  Also, if you are on an extremely low carbohydrate diet, that can cause what is called ketosis and that causes the urine to have a strong odor, too.

I have'nt been eating any of those vegs.lately. And i don't have a bladder infection. i've heard that some people w/ FM.have weird bladder symptoms. ?

hi there, i am newly diagnosed but i have had lupus for a few years now...

i know from being diagnosed with lupus with kidney involvement that weird smelling urine can also mean the you are spilling protein and/or blood in your urine. sometimes it looks kinda of brown or is darker in color and has a distinctive smell haha and its not really very pleasant...

if i were you i would get a urinalysis done to see if there are either of those things in your urine...how long has your urine been like that?

yup; Drink cranberry juice and have a full urine screen. My doc has found in every test I've had in past ten years, there is blood in my urine. He says "you have a gravelly bladder". Yikes! Anyway, some years ago, when it started, my then doc sent me for a kidney x-ray. It was scarey b/c they put you in this x-ray machine that slides down over your head. I had to wait there until they made sure they got the right exposure. Major claustrophobia, for me. Nothing "telling" came of it. I also have some pain in my lower back and abdomen from something going on. Plus, some incontinence. Plus serial infections. So, I guess, yes. But what to do about it I haven't a clue.

Tyno - don't ignore your symptoms.  Your doctor should refer you to a urology specialist.  Your symptoms are specific, related to one another, and have occurred over an extended period of time.  A "gravelly" bladder is vague and really not a diagnosis at all.  Insist on a referral!

Also - bubbles in your pee, or "foaming" can also indicate protein.

Spicey: I also noticed that since I've taken clonazapam, klonipin, my urine has a stronger odor. I don't know if that is part of it. Also Lucksgd; thank-you. I will when I see him this month. He is supposed to be referring me to a rheumatologist, also. The referral system to specialists here is very slow. I could easily wait 6 months or more. But I will ask him. We don't have many specialists.
