I have had that pain only a few times in my life, when I get the worst of my worse migraines. I used to just suffer, which took days to get rid of it, until a few years ago. I was at my doctor for something unrelated, and mentioned I was getting a really bad one. He filled up a needle with lidocaine (or something like) and shot it into the nerve that runs from your neck up over the occipital ridge/bump, and around the top to the eye. I could feel the immediate blockage of pain as my scalp went cool from the neck up. It felt so good I started to cry because I had been feeling so awful. I haven't needed it in about
3 years and darned if I can remember if it was definitely lidocaine, but ask your doc about
this treatment. Now, though I have a bunch of migraine triggers, and know what to avoid, I will take one or two Maxalt dissolving pills, and that nips it.
