Let Me Out of Here! 'Off Topic'

I am soooo sick of Los Angeles.   I want to move, but kinda scared.  I lived in AZ (30miles so. of Phx)  for a few yrs in the 90's and I sooo miss the quiet and just plain nice folk.

When I went on my vacation to GA to visit my sis, she has made us an offer if we were to move out there.  Sooo tempting!  She has been there for close to 20 yrs. 

I'm 42 with adult children, my dh is 49 and we have his son at home for at least another year.  His dad is kickin' him to the curb as soon as he turns 18 and "hopefully" graduates high school.  (He is a whole other story and part of my "big stress" at home)  I am nervous about the thought of me and my dh, as old as he is, finding another job again.  We are 'blue' collar type workers.   I know I have to take care of some debt first. 

Has anyone my age or even my dh's age move to another state and find employment?  I did all this when I was in my 20's in the best of health.  But this move would be different, because I will finally be close to my sis.  Something we both have wanted for years.  As for my dh, he says "I'll move wherever you want, just let me know when we are going."

We were both born and raised out here in L.A. and its just not the same for us anymore, hasn't been for years.

I hear Cheyanne, Wyoming is a good place to live, got some nice people. Job wise I don't know that. It's got clean air quality also.

When I was forty I moved my two son ages 8 and 11 from Texas to Virginia. I left behind all my family members to marry a man I had met on the net. We just celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary..it hasn't been an easy road for the hubby and I but we have learned to fight for our marriage because of the love between us. As for my sons, Virginia has given them a solid education and a hope for a better future. Trust your gut. Good Luck

Marlee, my sis has offered for us to stay with her(she has plenty of space)til we can get a place of our own. I know she will never move back here to L.A. She use to live in Minnesota after college. Anyways, she is not married, doesn't have any children. We've been close all our lives, just went way too different paths when we were young.

My kids haven't found their way quite in this world yet, so I wouldn't think it would matter if I took off.

Anyone live in Georgia??

Humidity + Fibro = PAIN, at least it does for me. I left the east coast almost 10 years ago to move out to the desert. My fibro pain is quite manageable now, I can function and do most of what I want to do. We had to go back for just over a week a few years ago and I thought I was going to die. I felt worse than I had ever felt before I moved away.

Now is probably not the time to give up a job, but since you can't move for another year, you have time to check out the job market. Some companies will let you interview over the phone so you can get hired before you move. When we moved here, there were so many openings in our fields, we weren't afraid of getting a job. It still took us about 8 weeks to go through the hiring process and actually start getting paychecks. With all the cutbacks in education these days, we can not longer be certain we'd find jobs in another city.

Don't forget about insurance coverage for the time between leaving your old job and qualifying at your new job. I ended up paying cash for 6 months supplies of my meds before I left so I'd have time to get insurance coverage and find decent doctors. I went without insurance for about 3 months, there was no way we could afford the COBRA payments and still afford to move. It was very scary but it worked out fine.

I'll throw my two cents worth in, even though I am not your run of the mill person. ^_^

Because of my bipolar, I've moved about 25 times in the last fifteen years - I've lived in eight different states. Up until the last move, I had at least one kid with me. This last move was unusual in that it wasn't planned and there were extenuating cercumstances (psycho ex). However, I never had money when I moved - about enough to see me through for a month usually - nor did I have a job lined up. I hardly ever had a husband/boyfriend move with me either (only once). I didn't take furniture with me, only what I could pack into my car or van - it's a lot cheaper that way. I took things that couldn't be replaced - everything else can be bought when I get to where I'm going. The one thing I *did* have was a place to stay wherever I was going - a relative or friend's house until I got on my feet. It seems you already have that. Since I worked temp most of my career, I simply signed up with the temp companies wherever I went and was soon working, if not permanently then a lot of temp jobs. Since it's been a while since I've worked temp, I don't know what that market's like anymore.

Anyway, I live my life never knowing what tomorrow will bring. I only know that if I don't try something then I'll always wonder that would have happened... I know what happens when I don't - I live the same life, and I'm still miserable. To me, life is too short to be miserable. If you're miserable - go somewhere where you think it might be different. If life is miserable there, maybe you made a mistake. But you will never know unless you try.
