Hey everyone,

I just have a quick question for you all. Do any of you experience problems with heat sensitivity? I find that whenever it is hot or humid, I get really tired and also start feeling really sick. I also sweat so much more then I used to. Same thing with any sorts of exercise, I just sweat so much and start feeling so sick that I have to stop, before my muscles even hurt. The only thing I can do is lay down with a fan and possibly even sleep.

Does any one experience this? What do you do to deal with it? Have you found anything that helps?

I can't take the heat and we have been having a heat wave here. I don't sweat excessively but I feel yucky even when I'm inside in the air. I think our bodies are just more sensitive to everything. But then I'm not out in it like I use to be so I'm not use to it. My dogs don't even want to be out there when it is as hot as it has been.

Heat and humidity affect me, also.  I live in Florida and the summertime is the worst time for my fibro.  BUT, cold affects me even more!

The heat & humidity don't seem to bother me. I sweat so much anyway I never know where it comes from. The cold really bothers me, I shouldn't be living in MN. I can't do all the things I used to, like x-country skiing, downhill skiing, skating, and snowmobiling. The best part of the cold is either a fireplace or leaving it.

It bothered me more in years past. This summer, I seem to like it more. It's 81 degrees in my house and I'm fine with just fans running. This is a definite change!?!

The heat alone doesn't bother me and that's good because it's 109 here today.  However if the humidity goes up I get sick and head-achy.  I hated the Midwest the last few years because everyday seemed humid in the summer.  Not here in Ca. What  I can't take is when the air conditioning is cold in some stores.  That gives me a head/neck ache.  I keep my house at 82-85 degrees.

I am very sensitive to the heat. Today, we had a yard sale, and I have just been feeling absolutely yucky all day. I hurt so much, although part of it is all the work I did yesterday. But, I have been doing a lot today too. And I have been out in the heat and humidity a lot today. I have just felt so tired and worn down and sick. So, you are definately not alone. I find that I am a whole lot more sensitive to temperature. I am sensitive to cold and to hot. I need some place that isn't too humid and is around 74 degrees all year round. The weather here in Indiana is so unpredictable too. Sometimes you get whiplash from the weather changes. LOL. Anyways. You are not alone in this. Our bodies are so sensitive to everything because of the fibro. The weather is just one of those things.

Heat = YUCK!!!  I have a massive intollerance to it as well.  The air conditioning in my car goes on when it hits 60 degrees.  Spring and fall are my best seasons.

Thanks everyone for your responses. It's good to know I'm not alone. My doctor didn't think it was part of the fibro, but I'm learning otherwise now and that's reassuring. I just want the heat to be gone!

You surely aren't alone, Sarah. I too have an awful time with heat. Above 75* and I'm absolutely miserable. At 73* I'm starting to feel it. I have read many people with fibro sweat more than normal or more than they used to. I am one of those too. I was outside today helping with some chores and within 2-3 minutes the sweat was pouring off my face. Yuckie!! Oh, I forgot...ladies don't sweat...they GLOW! lol So I was Glowing all down my face and it soaked my hair and my shirt. Summer is my least favorite season so I'm happy we've past summer soltice has passed and the days will start getting shorter culminating in my favorite season...Fall! Ahhhhh...crisp nights and sunny days with a mild breeze. That's my idea of great weather. I'm in NW Washington state so we have a marine climate and it's perfect for me.

Sorry I was so long but some days are like that...lol

I also have a hard time in the heat... I work at a child care facility and we swim everyday. So I am out at the side of the pool for two hours a day, its killing me! I sweat and feel exhausted! The previous summers did not bother me too much, but now I can barely tolerate it.

Remember the waterbased pillow I mentioned some time ago. Well, if you put it in the freezer for 1/2 hr. or leave in fridge for however long, it will save you. Also, the magic bag, also in the freezer. Also ice pacs like you use in coolers. Go for it, you'll feel better.

I never used to be heat sensitive. It was always cold that made me hurt, and I felt better in the summer. The past couple of years though, that's changed. Now I hurt in the summer too. With temps over 100 every day for the past week, and heat index (humidity) making it *feel* more like 115 plus, I've been in agony this summer.

I stay out of the heat and humidity as much as I can because I have severe asthma.  But, it is really bothering my fibro.   I have had a lot of headaches, from what I am reading, maybe they are fibro related.

At least my fibro is better than it was a year and a half ago when I was diagnosed.  I can get out of bed with out having to use my arms to pull my legs out of bed.

My 14 year old daughter was just diagnosed this week w/ FM. I know when she's in the shower too long she comes out sick. The doc said usually heat feels good to FM sufferers but I guess not heat & humid together. She got to the point if she took a shower before school, she ended up sick & not making it to school. She learned to keep the door open & turn the hot down. We didn't know it was part of FM but it seems everything she feels is!

Lettuce, I'm sorry for your daughter. :( No one, most especially a child should have to deal with this unrelenting pain.
If she's anything like me (and a great number of FMS sufferers) all of her senses are on 'high alert'. Cold feels colder, hot feels hotter, smells are stronger, lights are brighter, and we hear things nobody else can...like the incessant buzzing of the motor in the air conditioner unit outside on the other end of the house.

Gentle hugs to her, and to you as well, for having to deal with this.

I have not had a flare up in over two years. I thought that a miracle occured and that I had "won". Two weeks ago, I visited family in another part of the state where it was over 90. A day and a half into the trip, I was in bed. Two weeks later, I am in the midst of a full bore hell ride. So yeah, I am right there with ya sister, heat is our arch enemy.

Chutz, you like it went the soltice passes?  My sisters and I call and offer condolences to each other.  The days start getting shorter!  How SAD is that.  We are all spring and summer girls. smilewinkgrin
