I don't know if it's just me or if anyone else has this problem.
Whenever I am in a flare, and I am in between doses of my medicine and I start hurting (not pain meds, neurontin, by the way), i notice that my hands sort of spaz out on me. They hurt of course, just about everything does, but the also seem to take on a mind of their own. They will kind of curl into themselves. I can still use them, but they just kind of twitch and act generally weird. I was wondering if this was from my fibro or if it was from my neuropathy, or something else all together. Like maybe some sort of involuntary reaction to the pain? Anyone have any ideas? You know there are so many issues that are fibro related, but it would also be nice to know what is causing what, because sometimes I worry that I will have another issue and think it's fibro, but be something else. Does that make sense? Anywho, thanks in advance for any input :)

Hi, Mrs T, I also experiance weird twitching. I get it in my hands, and my fingers will curl
like you said and sometimes will notice my muscles in my arms and legs twitch. For me it
happens when I feel fried. I just think it is our body telling us to slow down. Fibro is such a
strange disorder and mimics other illnesses that can cause twitching, I always blamed it on
fibromyalgia.

Do you notice it happens when you feel totally exhausted either physically stressed or
emotionally, mentally stressed ? I just think our fibro goes haywire at times.

My hands were actually my first positiive visual symptom that something was wrong. The stiffness started in my middle finger ("not the flipper!" my doc said) and pretty soon my whole left hand is curled in a claw every morning when I wake up. After a couple hours I have to unroll my fingers over my knee while pressing my hand downward. It's incredibly painful, but only for a couple seconds. Then it goes back to the dull roar in my fingers. My hands swell and hurt and turn colors and definitely have a mind of their own as well. It's like they've seceded from the rest of me!

As for the twitching: my muscles twitch all the time, and constantly as I fall asleep. I think I even twitch in my sleep.

My hands aren't as bad as  yours but I've had times where I couldn't open jars or even open doors.  It did get better for me. But even now, I'll sometimes wake up with my hand in a fist and I have to slowly manually open my hand, using the other hand.  So, this could be your fibro.

I had never really thought about it but I guess my hands do tend to curl up. I had a jerking or twitching in my left arm and hand Tues morning for the first time that scared me cause I had never had that to happen before. It hasn't happened since so I don't know what it was.

 

It is hard sometimes to make a decision on pain and things our bodies do whether to seek medical help or not. Last night I was having chest pain in the middle and to the left side and questioned whether it was a big deal or not. I did do a lot yesterday in the house and our bodies can hurt anytime anywhere. It went away after awhile so I guess it was a muscle twitching or something.

Mine get stiff and hard to move but im unsure y exactly but it doesnt seem much like what u r experincing sorry you are going through it!

My hands do hurt alot, but they don't curl on their own. I find though that when I'm sitting I seem to curl them naturally. My arms hurt from my elbows to my hand and they burn also. I find that when my hands aren't hurting I'm not hurting either. Not nearly as much at least as usual.

Hi everyone, Littleneck How are you, Im Ed I was told the Fibro doen not effect the hands or feet, Have you had them X-ray on your hands and had a hand expert read them?. But I have some what of some news, I was takeing Paxil with my other drugs Neurontin, Ambian, Mophene, and 2 high plood pressure pills, I could not afford to pck up the Paxil so I went with out and after 3 days I started feeling better about myself and I had more energy and the twitch in my habds and arms stopped.
If your on a depresion drug as your doctor if that may be doing it.
I will say this, with the new energy I washed my car and pickup and the next day I was a mess, I hurt so bad I almost went to the ER for a shot in the Butt, I put some pain patches on and its much better now, I still have a sleep problem, and I stopped drinking coffee after 10am I took 3 of my ambian and 2 300mg's of the neurontin, I take 90 mr's of morphene in the morning but I'm still in pain from washing the car and the truck.
I hope you will ask your dovtor abot it or ask to see and hand doctor, you may want to ask you Pharmisits about side effects on any drugs you are taking. Have a great week and Im sorry for this long reply, please feel free to email me.

My right hand swelled up and turned blue, that is what started all of my fibro pain. My hands hurt everyday and I push them further then they go which ends making me super clumsy I have broken quite a few cups :( but they do not curl up perse it is kind of like what someone else said I find myself holding them that way wwhen they hurt.

sorry to hear you are having trouble with your hands ,,i have the same problem started over a year ago the pain from my hands up to my elbows then my middle fingers started locking upo and very painful to get out ,,now i wake up in the morning or sit for awhile they are stiff and i have ahard time opening my hands hard to open doors and hold things ,,my dr sent me to a rhumatolagist and that is when i found out i had fibro ,,but also found out i had nodules in my hands in the bone on my middle finger on the palm ,i still have trouble lifting with my right arm it dosent want to work right i also have ms but my neuro dosent think it is ms related ,,check with your dr to see if it could possibly be nodules,,,,good luck take care
