Well my daughter made it 9 days in school-

She went to school for 9 days but today is her 2nd day sick.  She is nausous in the mornings -does anyone else have this problem? She had this symptom for a year or more, very frustrating. I'm going to call the school counselor to set up a meeting w all her teachers.  I don't really know what to say to them but I need to be prepared.  I want to get across to them that she may miss more school than is allowed.  The counselor mentioned something about having a doctors note everytime, I don't take her to the doctor every time she is sick, because she is always sick.  We finally got her off the cymbalta, that was bad.  She is on  something from the naturepath & it seems ok.  If we could just get a handle on her stomach! She goes to school when her muscles ache all the time, but when it's her stomach she is out!  It's very frustrating as a parent to watch.  Every morning when I wake her up for school I hold my breath!  "Will she make it today?" Her sleep schedule starts to reverse again.

Alarm bells going off here... Been there with my daughter. Has she been checked for Crohns? Daughter has both fibro and the Crohns started with barfing most every morning about one hour into class... lots of diarrhea and tummy aches. Didn't get her definitive diagnosis for over 10 years because some doctors are really DUMB!

Also, start a food diary after you remove the biggest suspects for food allergies and intolerance. Regular store eggs, milk, hard cheeses, wheat, beef, chicken, dried fruits ... anything with hormones and antibiotics. Orange juice can be a culprit, too. Naturally occurring synephrin in the skins of commercially produced oj can cause problems.

Start her on plain cooked rice, just like when she was a bubby. Add things a few days apart until you notice tummy problems again. Buy hormone free chicken, free range eggs, ultrapasturized organic milk or scald all store bought milk if cost is a problem.

I've been down this path with all 3 of mine and once you get the foods figured out (if foods are the culprit) life really improves a lot!

Maybe whenever your daughter is home sick, you could call the doctor's office and ask them to call the school. If you have a ood doctor, I am sure they will do this. I really hope you get the stomach thing figured out. Good luck. Tell your daughter to hang in there. My e-mail addy is available if either one of you want to talk. I am fairly close to your daughter's age, so she might find it comforting to have someone close to her own age to talk to. Best of luck. *soft hugs to you and your daughter*

You shouldn't have to get a doc note every time. That is ridiculous, too sick for school doesn't always mean you need a doc visit. That's just crazy. Tell them you'll get one note from her doc explaining that she has a chronic illness and may miss a lot of school. Your doc doesn't have to go into a lot of personal detail.

Set up a meeting for a 504 (or an IEP depending on her needs) and her absences and other needs can be accommodated. Talk to your daughter and decide what would help make her days easier. Make a list and bring it to your meeting. These meetings are very intimidating. They start speaking in educationalese and initials and expect you to understand. Take notes, speak up, ask a lot of questions. Ask more questions if you don't understand. These people are educators and they are trained to explain things - don't let them confuse you. You have many rights but they may not want you to know that.

I've been on both sides of the table at these meetings and I get so frustrated when my colleagues talk "teacher" and expect the parent to understand. Your daughter has the right to attend the meeting but, sometimes, it can be rough for the child.

Before bed tonight she was crying & crying saying she wants to be homeschooled & she can't handle school anymore. She missed the 2nd semester of last year. We told her we will talk w the teachers & do whatever we have to for her to make it in school. We shall see what tomorrow brings.

Good luck. Remember, out of fear or miseducation, people try to control what they don't understand. The counselor is like Human Resources - working to support the school's success. My family's seen that road too.

She has had so many tests that I can't honestly remember if chrons was one. I know she's had cat scans of her intestines etc an upper GI w small bowel. The symptoms don't seem to line up-I'll ask next time she goes to the doc next week. Thanks for all the support! She did not go to school again today.

I know the down of being sick to your tummy. My heart really goes out to your daughter!! I started with the throwing up almost a year ago, after 4 years of complaining very loudly and forcefully to my doctor that I am in PAIN! And every time it really really hurts I throw up. It's kinda sad when it starts to be the normal in day to day life. My mom is here in the usa visiting me and I cringe to think of what she would have told my doctor on monday..... thank heavens her english is aweful!! But finally after all this time and begging for a referal to a pain management clinic so i can just finish my degree and go back to work I was shocked to find all this time i never even needed the referal. I really hope they find why she keeps vomiting, it is so aweful to go thru everyday.
