Fibro hearing loss with noise sensitivity

Okay please bear with me as I try to explain this, I have fibro, a 50+ hearing loss in both ears and this is the hard part, I have noise sensitivity which makes no sense because like my husband says how can I be half deaf and sensitive to noise at the same time.  Bass sounds drive me crazy as sometimes that is all I can hear when my husband has the music turned up or the volume turned up on a movie and I'm in another room.  I don't hear the treble sounds, all that is banging in my head over and over again is the bass.  I've talked to my husband about this but he is reluctant to turn the volume down and usually he ends up getting mad at me when I tell him how I feel?  I have tinnitus as well but that is a separate issue as far as I know.

Bass is almost unbearable to me. Especially from a cd player.

The bass is on a different level than higher sounds. So it makes sense that u have hearing loss to higher frequency noises but are still sensitive to lower frequency.

At least it does to me.

I'm not a dr, but I have always been interested in hearing and vision.

I'm sensitive to everything. I'm always asking ppl 2 b quiet & I listen to the tv at volume 8. But I love music. I cannot stand tapping, stomping sounds. But I read that because fibro is thought to be an overactive cns, then the repetitive noises cause over stimulation and therefore are irritating.

FYI, tinnitis is a symptom of fibro. I have it and major noise sensitivity. I live in Florida and the sun has become a major enemy too. We are very sensitive to external stimuli!!!!

I have Meniere's Disease and also suffer from severe hearing loss.  However...booming bass noise actually makes something inside my ears 'vibrate'.  We have a 'turbo sound boost' feature on our television and when the hubby turns that on I have to leave the room.  He wonders the same thing...I'm half deaf so why does it bother me?  I can't go to a movie theatre because of the bass.  The louder the better must be their motto.

I use to be able to listen to music with a lot of bass and rock along with it, now if I'm more than a few feet away from the music source, I can't hear nothing but the base and that's very uncomfortable. Sometimes the music around here goes on for hours and I feel like running away but where do you go at midnight?

I tried putting on big headphones to drown out the noise but the boom boom boom still comes through. LoL, is there a solution for this without having to leave my husband?

I have a severe hearing loss.  When you start to lose your hearing, you lose the high sounds first.  That's why you hear the low, bass sounds and they are loud to you.

I have hearing loss due to arthritis in the inner ear. The bones fuse together and I lose hearing ranges.

I was diagnosed about 15 years ago. I have the tinnitus that seems to go along with the hearing loss.

If I'm listening to music the bass doesn't seem to effect me, but the high pitches are like fingernails on a

blackboard. I do know that if someone has the TV on and I'm trying to sleep it drives me nuts. I have

a fan going at night 365 to drown out the noise in my ears. It sounds kind of like a TV test pattern

most of the time with intermittent swooshing. Kind of like going to the ocean without leaving the house.

Thanks, with the tinnitus I hear clicking sounds in my head. Once I heard a sound like sounded like a jackhammer, it was awful. I've read that tinnitus is more prevalent in people with FM. I find the tinnitus really acting up when under a lot of stress. My mom has meniere's and feels off balance.

I did some research since I wrote this post and I think I hit on a site that explains some of what I'm going through. People with sensorineural hearing loss may experience Recruitment, hyperacusis (noise sensitivity)and even phonophobia or hyperphonia and all of the above can be experienced at the same time in some.
