How many of you have tried a gluten free diet or all organic diet?

Tried an almost all organic diet for about a year, didn't help much at all. I ate organic fruit, vegetables, nuts and grains. I rarely ate meat because I couldn't afford organic. Most of my friends ate organic so that made it easier and cheaper because we bought in bulk but it was still expensive and I didn't notice a change in my health. I still buy organic when I can but I'm not exclusively organic.

I went gluten free for a while and found that cutting out wheat helps with my pain a bit. I found that gluten doesn't matter much for me but wheat does. I have less pain when I skip wheat but, to be honest, it doesn't make enough of a difference for me to stick with it. I lose weight when I stop eating grains so that is a bigger benefit.

I found that the first two weeks without wheat were awful, I felt a lot worse, more pain and brain fog, and I craved it. It got a bit easier after a few weeks because I felt better but I still craved wheat even after 6 months without it.

Dietary changes help some people but not everyone. You won't know which side you are on unless you try. Personally, I'd try gluten free first. There are some great books, websites, and support groups to help you change your eating habits. You can slowly switch to organic as your budget allows.

I found out I had celiac the end of July and have pretty much been gluten free since, a little cheating but not much. It has helped the digestive problems a lot and I seem to have more energy but the pain has only increased with the added energy and doing more. No win situation.

 

I wouldn't be gluten free just for fibro.

I just wanted to share this as it is a huge topic lately.

I have a sister-in-law that has celiac disease. She, not anyone else in the family is on the gluten free diet. The doctors told her that unless you have celiacs, there is no reason to be on this diet and actually would be harmful to be on this diet. When you go on this diet you take away foods and nutrients that your body needs. You can have deficiencies in many areas including:folate, iron, and fiber.

He also stated the standard gluten-free diet does not meet the recommended intake for fiber, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, folate, iron, or calcium. There is a ton of issues that can happen being on this diet if you do not need it.
Please check with your doctor before going on a gluten free diet, because one thing I do know.. if you are coming to this forum.. you don't need more health problems!
Hahahaha :P I am not trying to be negative on this subject at all.. I just want people to be informed.
