Hi, Pat, and welcome! I'm so glad you found us and joined in. We do have a great forum here with wonderful members that love to help one another. I think you will like it here.
I, too, have diabetes, along with Crohn's disease, an ostomy, osteoporosis, I'm legally deaf, and a few other goodies. Yes, when I stop to think about all of this, it is quite overwhelming and depressing. But, if I just keep on, keeping on, and living one day at a time, I'm able to deal quite well with all of this.
Over the holidays I started dwelling more on pain. Of course it was more pronounced because of all the extra activities we all do during this season. The tears started to flow, the pain increased, and my blood sugars soared! I even called the doctor in case he wanted to change my medication. Bottom line was I felt absolutely miserable and was depressed! I know you don't know me but Marlee nicknamed me Little Miss Sunshine! I'm rarely depressed. I knew I had to get a handle over this situation...and fast!
I happened to invite a friend over for dinner on New Year's Day. While preparing the food, I broke down in tears telling her about a situation in my life that is quite troubling. She gave me a two sentence answer and it was like a weight was lifted off me. She basically said to go with the flow, take one day at a time, and trust God to handle things. Pat, by that evening, my pain had lowered, I was in such a wonderful mood, I was smiling all the time, and my blood sugars came down again! I WILL remember her advice every day.
We know we can handle things for one day. Even though I am in pain, I revel in the things I accomplish. You should too! Look at you, working an 8 hour day! That is fabulous and it shows what a strong woman you are.
You seem to be doing good things to help the fibro. You know to exercise but I know that has to be hard having asthma. I walk for my exercise. When I started out, I could barely go four houses down but now I can walk distances. When I lived up north I bought a walking in place video that helped accomplish the same thing. Mine is by Leslie Sansone and she has a lot of them out there. I chose one that wasn't too strenuous and I think you could do that with your asthma. If you haven't already, be sure to read the Fibro 101 thread...the second thread on the forum. You will find good stretching exercises that are done sitting down in that thread and these could help you, too.
Don't hesitate to ask questions. We are here to help you. We are all in the same boat and we have learned some things to help us live a full and enjoyable live in spite of fibro. I'm sure you have a few tricks up your sleeve, too! So, welcome to our family. We will get through this....one day at a time.
