The Good New Gazette!

 

Happy New Year and welcome to the Good News Gazette!  I had this idea this past weekend when I was seeing so many sad and depressing posts on the forum.  Having chronic pain is depressing but we need to try to not be thinking about pain and medication a lot.  That, alone, is depressing and causes more pain.  We are better off focusing on the good things in our lives so I'm starting the Good News Gazette! 

 

What we do on this thread is talk about the good things in our lives.  We don't mention pain and misery...just like the Koffee Klatches.  Instead we can talk about what we accomplished that day or something you are so thankful for.  I'm hoping that by writing these things down and reading other members' good news, it will be encouraging to all of us on the fibro forum.  What better gift can we give each other than encouragement!  If we've come up with a shortcut or an easier way to do something, this is the place to post it!  That definitely is good news.  I'm hoping this will give each of us new hope and help chase some depression away and put a smile on our faces.  So, let's give it a try!

 

Yesterday I managed to take my Christmas tree down and put away the rest of my decorations without help.  I was so pleased about that.  I have a small, artificial tree and would bring in the box, take apart the tree, and struggle to get the filled box out to the garage.  Can't say I'm the brightest bulb in the chandelier!   LOL  This year I left the box in the garage and carried each section out separately and it was a breeze!  I sure wish I had thought of that five years ago! 

 

When I finished that, I got on the computer and saw that we had freeze warnings here in Florida!  I ignored the freeze warning last year and lost a lot of my plants and it cost me several hundred dollars to replace them.  Money talks to me these days so I got out and covered all my tender plants.  Last night, when I would wake up, I would smile because I knew my plants would be safe and I would be able to continue to enjoy their blooms in a few days.  I did give myself several good pats on the back!

What a great idea, Sherrine!  I have already written a long As the Fibro Burns post, vaccumed the living room and family room, done the dishes and brought several loads of wood in for our wood stove.  Can I take a nap yet..LOL!  I know we can't mention pain, but what about the fog?  I DID lose two sets of car keys over the week-end and I didn't even drive anywhere.  Before my nap, I will be checking the freezer etc...per ususal.  No bigee...right?

Wow, Sherrine came up with a great idea, now that is good news!!! Sorry Sherrine, I was too busy for a long time to give you any problems but not so busy now.

 

Oldest son e-mailed me this morning and it was 17 in NC, it was -12 here with wind chill factor. Wonder if the poor baby wanted sympathy???

 

Puppylove, if you have a Gordman's near you they have heavy duty hiking socks for about the same price as Walmart's lightweight ones.

 

Robin, I will get back to my purging and redecorating projects I started last fall tomorrow. Would have started today but spent two hours going to doc for my three month checkup and too late to start anything when I got back. If it hasn't been used since we moved here 4 1/2 yrs ago it is gone. My motto is simplify, simplify, simplify.

 

I had a good doc visit today, still have a pulse so guess I am in great shape, except for that P word we can't use.

I gave blood on Saturday.  I used to give blood all the time, but had to stop because my iron stores were too low.  Then I never went anywhere near the blood bank because I worked in the opposite direction.  So when I discovered a blood drive while I was shopping, I decided to give it a try.  I had enough iron, my blood pressure and pulse were both good, too.  I usually get a little weak and dizzy after giving blood, but that passed in less than an hour and I was good.  This was the first time I gave blood after getting fibro.  I was concerned that it would hurt more and I would be more tired than I used to get, but it turned out fine.  It felt so good to be able to do that again.  I also discovered that there is a blood drive near here every two months! 

Well, like many of you, I need to organize...BIG TIME!  Yesterday, I started in my walk in pantry in the kitchen.  On the floor I had so many electrical gadgets I haven't used in the 12 years I've lived here, along with about 2,856 dust bunnies.  I should have been throwing carrots in there occasionally, I had so many!     So, I pulled all of them out, wiped them all off, and put them in the garage in a large box for a garage sale my development has in the spring. 

Then I was starting my shelves.  I have wire shelves and I don't like them because many things tip over on them so my daughter had some thin "boards" cut that I can put on some of the shelves.  So, today, you will find me knee deep in canned goods, snacks, crackers, paper products, and cleaning goods.  If you don't hear from me, send in a search party!

Terrific Post, Sherrine! And, congrats Puppylove!!

I made doctor's appointments (I had been putting off). Rah! I also straightened upstairs, and minorly reorganized my kitchen closet.

Next, I plan to go do two loads of laundry at the local washorama. Then, to the gym! I was bad over the hols, since I was taking a statin that totally knocked me out. But, since I have stopped, my energy has come back, and with it the need to go back to the gym.

The biggest 'rah' factor is that I finally recommitted to Weight Watchers again today, after gaining back 40 of 50 pounds lost. New goal--150. Current Weight: 177.6

Wow what a great idea, this is sooo needed right now.  I decided to start dieting before the new year, just changing my habits and watching portions.  Well, we got a Wii for Christmas (yes it is for the kids...) and I love it.  Once I fire it up, I feel energized and I can do so much like house work.  I am on my second load of laundry for the day, I am psyched!

back in the day when I filed paper work and old bills.. ( now they just go in a box in the closet .. bad me I know.. but anyway back then I would save 1 yr of bills. and keep 7 yrs for taxes.

I cleaned my house, I mean really cleaned, it took me 2 days 3 rooms one day 3 rooms the next. LOL My Christmas deco is still up though, cept the tree, which is actually going up this wkend. My son's been at his nanna's since the wkend before Christmas and we'll be having another Christmas for him later this month. Instead of buying gifts or cards for the rest of my family, using a resource I just don't have, I got out all of my scrapbooking stuff and made cards. It took me about an hr for each card between all the cutting and gluing and designing, but each one is personalized and each has a picture of the first time they held my son. The idea spawned because I didn't want to spend my 'husband's' money to buy him a birthday gift LOL After glue and deco items each card cost about 20 cents. Aside from my son being gone, the only darker spot is that the cold weather killed the battery in my mini van, which was going to cost $200 to replace, but they took $20 off after talking with my husband and I finding out we're both disabled. It took most of what I had managed to save up in 5 moz, but at least it wasn't the alternator or something more serious and expensive.
And speaking of cold weather, while the freezing fog and flurries are pretty, couldn't they just be a lil warmer? LOL

I hope everyone has as many productive, lower pain days as they can handle :)

Yummy smoothies.  If you have juicer, carrots, celery, lemon, apple, and cilantro make a really delicious juice. 

 

I'm coming out of my six week long flare!! Tonight is the first time I have actually felt GOOD in a month. I bought myself a really nice juicer for Christmas and tonight made a great juice of carrots, ginger, cilantro, celery, apples, and lettuce. I drank it and instantly felt my cells wake up and go ZING! The fog lifted, and everything suddenly felt great. I've really been trying to eat well and be cognizant of the effects of different kinds of foods, so have been eating better. YAY!

PS- Statgeek, I made the juice before I read your post - what a great coincidence. I'm hooked!

Oh Chutzie a Golden puppy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I am so happy for you.  You will be getting lots of good and happy exercise.  My baby is 2 and a half now but still acts like a puppy.  We take lots of walks and have lots of  playtime.   She makes me get going in the morning even if I'm not having a "good" day.

Well, I'm still in my pantry.  I think this will take a few more days because I work a little and then get on the computer a little or do something else around the house.  That way, I don't over do and I don't sit in one place too long.  The movement helps me.

 

But, I had NO idea how many paper products I had.  I was storing them in several places.  I have at least 400 plastic cups, tons of plastic utensils, God only knows how many paper plates, and about 18 packages of fancy napkins.  It got to be funny!  The more I found, the more I laughed!  I even have 12 packages of paper doilies! 

 

But, you know what?  All of these paper products gave me an great idea!  It's getting close to my having another virtual party and I have all these wonderful products to use.  No doing dishes at my house!  So, in a week or two, be looking for your virtual invitation on the forum.  I will set the date then.  Start packing!
