Ok as you all know,,,,

 I work from home taking calls for a catalog co..

well today .. seems every call , the customer is not understanding what I'm saying.. I have to repeat several times and re word it.. Oh God.

I noticed this the last week or so geting worse by the day... could this be Fog.. and I really am  not making any since . but don't know it. ?????? Help

I take what we call Resolutions call.s these are the very escalted customers the reg customer service agents can't handel... I need to make since... I de escalte customers and resolve very complacated issues ,thats what I do best..

Whats happening to me.... I know I am in a bad bad Flare have been for about 3-4 months now.

 

Man I hope its just me freaking out. really I do .

 

I will mind you talk to my family . huband , Daughter , mom, Dad. and ask them if they have noticed a change in my speaking and making since to them... as i talk to each one every day .

anybody with expirence with working and having to give up because of Fog... please share your story of how you knew it was time to stop working .. I know your out there in siber land. .. ( sorry about my miss spellings )

 

Ok . I am going to lay down now for about an hour. , get up and maybe do a small walk with the dog before I start back to work . I get a 2 hour break in the middle of my shift . Praise God for the many Blessings

Spirit...I had to call the cable company the other day because our computer and telephone service was going on and off. (can do without the phone but the hubby makes his living on the computer) First of all, I am VERY hard of hearing because of Meniere's disease.  Despite that, I finally got someone on the phone and could not articulate a single thought.  I kept refering to equipment as 'thingys' and 'whatchamacallits' ...couldn't think of router and cable box.  I could tell the woman was getting very frustrated as she tried to talk me through resetting everything.  Finally, I got the hubby, who was snowblowing the driveway, to talk to her.  I don't take any prescsription pain meds so I know it wasn't that.  I'm gonna just say it's the ole fibro fog and leave it at that.  I know how difficult it must be for you to have to earn a living trying to be coherent and alert.  I could never do that...I am so proud of you that you keep on, keep on.

Spirit, I'm sorry the Fog is making your work so difficult, it must be very frustrating. I know
how difficult it can be to function when the fog is thick, but I don't have to work with customers.

Just doing the basics like laundry, grocery shopping, cooking and cleaning are difficult when
you have thick fog going on. Many times at the grocery store, I must look like a deer in
headlights. My mind will go absolutely blank and I'll be staring into space even with my grocery list in my hand. It feels like brain freeze.

I give you alot of credit Spirit. Fog is always thicker when you are flaring, so hopefully your
flare ends soon. In the meantime take plenty of deep breaths and if all possible, slow down
your pace. Hoping all will work out for you Spirit!

I could be the fog, Spirit.  What about writing down a list of common words that you need to use in these situations with these customers.  Then, if you go blank, you scan the list and find it.  That's the problem I have.  I'll do fine but then can't pull up a word and then I lose my train of thought.  (It has left the station!  smilewinkgrin )  So perhaps that would help you AND would help bring your confidence back.  If you are so worried about this (fear) it is affecting your confidence and that can cause you to forget even more! 

It's wonderful that you can work from home and I know all of us can use extra money.  If I could have a job like that, I would but I'm legally deaf and really can't use the phone.  So, see it this will help you.  Start the list and add to it as you remember other key words.  You could write key phrases down too.  Then, you won't worry about not being able to come up with the words.

I knew for a while that I was worse, physically and mentally. I always thought I would be the one to say I can't do this anymore. Wrong, I was always forgetting conference calls and alot of important things. My employees kept track of me alot, more than I realized. I worked retail management. I finally screwed up with money and someone took advantage, knowing I would be held responsible. I am now unemployed, after 16 years with the company, got fired. I feel aweful and wish I would have never went to work that day. I knew I was in a funk that day and felt I had to go because others were getting the piggy flu and I had already missed alot of days. My advice would be, don't go to work on your worst days. One mistake cold be fatal, I shouldn't have even been driving that day. I also have other health problems, so I don't know how your situation would compare. Just be careful.

I'm sure its Fog now. after talking with Mom and she had to explain what she said as it was not making any since. LOL.. Oh ya the Fog.. oh the fog..

 

day is almost done thanks goodness..

 

it does worry me . as sometimes you dont relize just what word came out of your mouth. its not the one you where thining of saying...but something off the wall. i have done this with my husband. he will give me a look that says what ???? so I ask" what did I just say". LOL. not what I was thiniking .. so ya working in this amount of Fog is not good.. its hard. we are doing the lay offs from the holiday so I really am trying not to call out even though I do have FMLA so I am protected.. next time I willl call out as that is my fear.. that I'll make a mistake and get fired. I do have Disbility with work. short and long term..it pays 66 % of my reg pay so not bad.. If I could only get my credit card bills paid off.. I might be able to swing it.

 

 but really am not ready to hand in the towl yet...

Hi Spirit, I have always liked your name because that's what we fibromites really need- strong spirit!

I'll share the story about when I decided to stop working a couple of months ago, and apply for disability. The fog for me is also the worst part of flaring. I can't speak right, get the right words, get extremely frustrated and that makes it worse, so usually just stop talking. Even my tongue gets thick. I had a pretty independent admin job at a very small company so anything and everything was noticeable, even though I kept to myself a lot. My flare was going on for months, really bad, and I started to sound like I was drunk or using funny drugs, and I noticed "those glances," you know the kind when your coworkers have been talking about you and wondering things. They knew I have fibro but didn't really understand how many different things happen with it.

Then I physically couldn't perform. I couldn't file because the filing boxes were too heavy; even picking up the phone to answer it, or one or two file folders to file them hurt arms and elbows like the dickens. I was cold-sweating all over the place, and would even fall asleep as I filed. I had to take the trash out at the end of the day, too, and when I started crying because I couldn't lift a little half-filled bag, I decided I needed to stay home and not feel guilty about it, so gave my notice the next day. That last trash bag did it, combined with that terrible feeling of knowing I'm saying the wrong thing because of the fog. I didn't trust myself driving, either. So for the first time in a long time I decided to put myself first and stay home. I used to work 60hrs a week as a leadership program manager, and now I would miss at least one day a week. When I couldn't perform simple admin tasks I knew it was time to rest and get healthy.

It sounds like you may be fighting yourself. If you can spend extra time after your work day relaxing and being quiet for awhile, it might help your concentration on the phone calls. If you were ready to stop working, if that moment comes, you will see it and feel it as clear as a song. BTW we could be twins - I'm wearing nightgown, Boston Red Sox hoodie, elbow compression sleeves underneath, a warm throw around my lap and a wool ski hat!

wow .. thank you Littleneck for your story... sharing this helps me so much more than you prob know.
Thank Goodness I have a head set . because the weight of the phone hurts my arm to hold it up to my ear most days.
I get that cold - hot thing so bad anymore. I will be sweating dripping sweat from my forehead neck. and at the same time my arms will hurt from being cold to the touch. this has to be one of my worst symptoms and its getting worse all the time. I would swear parts of my body are extremely hot and others cold all at the same time. makes me crazy... finding the right words is another one. . as taking calls you say pretty much the same thing on every call for sales say.. and I get all jumbled up with my words... I laugh it off for now. but know the time may be coming faster than I want, to admit I can't do it anymore.
my big fear is losing my job and at the same time losing my Disability benefits from work... my husband with all the child support back child support he owes . well they take about half his check. so he can't pay all the bills. I don't want to lose my home. I still owe about 20 years the loan. as we did a 30 yr loan. the payments are low enough though only about $ 400.00 month plus elc , water, cable, phone etc.
sorry just thinking out load again..
you did the right thing , we do need to put our self's and our health first.. I now after work. I am so done in. I only cook Dinner a couple days during the work week anymore. its just become to much for me... I'm sure you understand .

The lesson I'm learning abut not working is to not blame myself for getting fibro. I tend to feel guilty about having fibro and not being able to "pull my weight" like I used to. So go easy on yourself. The fog will lift and every day will bring a new adventure... hopefully good ones!! :)
