GETTING AN EMG NEXT WEEK-

I've been complaining about my myoclonic muscle spasms to my neuro for a few weeks now--So, today--she scheduled me for an EMG-!   She said it'll take about half an hr-!

At least it's early in the morning...(8:45 AM)--so..I don't have to wait....AND.....I'll have a woman neuro giving me the test...& I feel...(thru experience)---women have a "gentler touch"...than men--! wink  (I get botox shots...too--for hemifacial spasm & my woman neuro is a lot less "painful"...than they guy neuro was.')

Anyone here ever have an EMG?  Heard they are not too bad.....just a "sting".....when they give the "electric" current---!  Get back-----on your GOOD experiences!  wink   Thanks-  Robert

Yup, I've had an EMG. It is quite painless. The needles they use are very thin, they look
like accupuncture needles. The procedure doesn't take too long. My neurologist is quite
funny. He had to put some needles in my chest area and asked me if I had breast implants.
I'm really small breasted, I told him if I did I got robbed!

You will get through the EMG just fine!

hello my name is john and i had one about a year ago after my thrombectomy......to see if i had any nerve damage........it was just a lil shock but it wasnt long lasting....i did however feel that the following few days my fibro was somewhat worse.....but i did have a male administering the test....lol ....but i would say no worries everything should be fine......

I haven't had this test but I am sure things will go smoothly and hopefully you will find some info out that can help you.  That would be pretty wonderful, huh?

I had an EMG a few years ago. Mine was performed by a male neurologist who was the reincarnation of the Marquis de Sade. I wouldn't call it painless at all. However, it gave me the information I needed. It enabled us to rule out all sorts of lovely diseases and problems so it was well worth it.

Emg and nerve conduction are normally done together.  I had two last year and found the one on the spine to be pure torture and the one on my arm only slightly less.  I was nearly off the table several times for the spine one.

I was told it would be like acupuncture.  If that is true I will never even consider having that done!

The results though are worth it.  They can pinpoint where you are having nerve problems and diagnose whether nerves are really the problem of if it's something else like tendonitis.

I just recently had this done! It isnt really painful, just very odd when your fingers and feet move without your control! The Neuro said I have nerve damage in my legs not sure what from still no answer on that one. Good luck to you

I had one done about 25 years ago. Let's just say I will never have another one; not for any reason. But 25 years is a long time and a lot of progress has been made I'm sure. I had a male too. We did not part friends.

I'm sure yours will go off without a hitch. Look at all the people who are saying it's a breeze. Go with that. Good Luck!

Alcie, I've had acupuncture and it was wonderful, I could barely feel the needles. It was relaxing and peaceful and I always felt better for days afterward. The EMG test was NOTHING like acupuncture. My arms, hands, and feet ached for days.

Good to know acupuncture is not horrible like EMG. My doc probably never had acupuncture. I wish he had just said the EMG was going to hurt. I will tolerate pain, but I hate being surprised!
My arm EMG wasn't nearly as bad as the lower spine one.
EMG isn't nearly as bad as getting epidural and facet joint injections. But those mostly help in the long run too.

I had this test done about 2 years ago. It wasn't really painful .. but it was a strong sensation kind of like pain. I can say that it was more like accidentally touchng the electric cattle fence than accupuncture though. (I live on a farm) It went away quickly though .. I didn't have any residual discomfort. And we laughed a lot through the whole thing because the woman who performed the test was great. She offered to 'test' my husband first ... so I could see it was going to be ok. LOL! (She didn't really do it .. but you should have seen the look on his face! ha ha ha) And she kept saying "Ok, ready?" and I would say "NO" and she would say "OK" and do it anyway. The other cool thing about it was it was probably one of the only tests ever that I got results from during the visit! None of that "we'll call you in a week to tell you what we found out" stuff that drives me crazy.

it doesnt' last long, and you do get valuable information ... and hopefully a good tech with a great sense of humor! that goes a long way! good luck ...
