I went back to my doctor yesterday for a Fibro check-up.  I told him that the past week or so my fibro has been so bad.  By the end of most days, I can hardly stand up because my feet and legs are KILLING me.  I had tried a Lortab 7.5 one night to see if it helped with the pain at all.  It didn't even touch it.  It used to work for me (or at least knock me out so I could sleep the pain off).  Since I can't stand the thought of taking a narcotic pain pill for the rest of my life, I asked for Ultram (Tramadol) for the pain.  Hoping for something I could take during the day to head the pain off and not interfer with work. 

 

He also prescribed Nortriptyline (Aventyl) at beditme.  I guess this is a form of an anti-depressant that he is using as a sleeping pill and/or a pain/nerve blocker. 

 

My question is... does anyone take these meds for their fibro?  Pills make me nervous and I guess I just need some feedback. 

 

I was hoping to control the fibro pain naturally.  I am on a prescription strength vitamin that actually helps with the pain and fog.  I was hoping to get some feedback on natural remedies, also.  Does a specific diet help anyone?

I take norco, which is the same as lortab except less tylenol in it. It works for me, I take two at a time if I have to. It doesn't help me sleep though, if anything, it gives me energy. I also take adderall, which is a stimulant. It keeps me awake during the day. And gives me energy to do things. When I first got diagnosed for fibro, the doctor wanted me on a protien diet. I don't know if that will help you or not. I would discuss this with the doctor. There are many different natural remedies, but they don't work for me. I hope that you find what works for you.

Hi LRDosier and welcome. I have been taking 100 mg of amitriptyline for over 12 yrs, it is in the same class of anti-depressants as nortriptyline, tricycle anti-depressants. I was on it when I was dxd with fibro for depression and anxiety. These meds can be used for several different things including sleep and pain along with depression and anxiety. I didn't think it was doing anything for me til I decided to cut back a little almost two years ago and went into a horrible burning flare for two weeks til the full amount got into my system again. I don't seem to have as much pain as many with fibro do but don't know if it is really the ami or I just don't have as much pain since we all vary. The only way to find out is trying to slowly cut back again and see what happens and not sure I want to risk that.

 

Tramadol didn't do anything for me but we are all different and what does or doesn't work for one doesn't mean it won't work for others. This really is trial and error to find what works.

 

I think I am the queen of medphobia on here so I totally understand wanting info on meds before you put them in your body. I do have vicodin on hand if I have pain that I can't stand but haven't had to take any for quite awhile. Found out it doesn't do anything for my terrible headaches and that is one of my biggest complaints.

 

I hope the nortriptyline helps with sleep and with the pain. I'm sure your doc started you out on a low dose.

Unfortunately, I rely on a number of medications to help me manage, as Fibro is just part of my life. I have chronic pain from other issues as well (see my signature), so I've had to turn to drugs to keep going. I wish that wasn't the case, but it is what it is and I do what I need to, in order to get thru the days.

I was prescribed Nortriptyline, but it didn't do a thing for me. We've just added the Flexeril and Clonidine to my mix, so I should know shortly if it helps or not.

I am lucky...I have a doctor who doesn't hesitate to listen to what I have to say and prescribe what I'd like to try, in order to manage. She told me once, it's my body that feels the pain, not hers, so she trusts my judgement on what I need. She's my family doctor, I've been with her for 14 years, so even though I have a pain management team, she does the prescribing. It sure works for me.

Last winter I was in almost unbearable pain, I chose to stop eating dairy and that helped alot! Im still in alot of pain but not to the point I can't function.

Well, if you don't feel comfortable taking narcotics for the pain, I don't know what to say because I take lortabs. Most of the time they help except on a really bad day. I take Trazodone for sleeping. Are you taking Lyrica? It does help for some.

I think we all had the week from h*** last week. My new doctor took me off Lortab because he didn't like narcotics. Personally it didn't do anything for pain for me, except when I took it WITH Neurontin. Don't ask why because I don't know, but I do know I was able to get up. It gave me a decent life anyway. Dr switched me to Savella - will give you my thoughts when I'm on it long enough. Don't know about anyone else, but sometimes I feel better for some unexplained reason. That is why I don't like to jump to conclusions too early on any new med. New meds always seem to work great at first and then dud. Mystery to me. Maybe ask your Dr about Neuronton/Lortab together and how it has helped someone else with fibro. If you don't at least ask, your answer is always no!! :)

Hey there!

I take norco for pain, Lyrica for fibro, celexa for mood i guess. I have legs and feet soreness by the end of the day, they give me trouble sleeping and they hurt in the morning. My doctor gave me Clonazepam which is used to treat Restless Leg Syndrome, i take 1 tablet at night time and it works its majic. My legs dont hurt as they did before.

Some people take oxycontin for pain which are pretty strong meds. I had a procedure done yesterday (thoracis radiofrequency ablation) and i hurt like hell so i took 20 mg of oxycontin and it seems to help alot.
