Visual Disturbances

Oh, I can SO relate! There is a road my DH likes to take, w/ the dappled sunshine thru the trees. He finally noticed it makes him sleepy and I have a prob w/ nausea. I also have a hard time w/ red as a background. If we are watching tv and the credits are running on a red background, I have to turn it off. My eyes and head hurt and I again feel nauseous.

I have a prob w/ motion in the car, veering a bit can send me grabbing for the safety bar. I would get so sick on the bus to the city when I was a child. Motion is not my friend.

I also read those books by Devin, they were what finally convinced me to persue this dx of Fibromyalgia w/ my former dr. It answered so many ???? I had that were mostly ignored by drs.

There are other things, but I just can't think of them right now. Imagine that??? lol

I have the same problem with a highway I travel frequently but only on the brightest of days.  Get that totally disorienting feeling when the sunlight pickets or flashes thru the trees bordering the road.  I don't have Mienre's (sp) 

I do however have another thing that happens to me that I have been going to post about.  It only happens at night or when I take a nap.  I'll almost be asleep when a sudden noise or movement startles me.  It can even be my DH just clearing his throat next to me in bed.  Suddenly I'll see lightning patterns--similar to a electrical storm.  Not geometric as much a complicated spider web like or psycidelic (sp).  I figure it is a central nervous system fart!

Wow I thought all that was me. I have trouble driving on the Interstates cause traffic moves too fast and it bothers my eyes, not that I drive slow cause I don't but it is all the movement from the other drivers.

 

We have a street that goes clear through our town and at some time they turned it into a four lane that really isn't big enough to be four lanes and there is a curve in it and you have to watch the on coming traffic cause if they aren't use to driving it they come over the line some and it is tree lines to boot and I dread that section when the sun is shining through the trees.

 

I have never been good at driving at night with the on coming cars.

 

Before we moved into our old house we gutted the kitchen so I decided to wallpaper it in a little blue check while there was nothing in there. Wow after we moved in there I could not stand to look at that check cause it seemed to keep moving or something so that came down real quick. People thought I was nuts but I couldn't take it.

 

I have a headache most all the time but like yesterday morning I was trying to read on here and my eyes mess up and won't focus right and it is like there are waves moving and I get a terrible pain right above my eyes where I do have a lot of pain in the middle of my forehead and do have a tender point there. I have to wait it out when that helps and it doesn't last but maybe a half hour at the most but is that a migraine??? I don't know what I would do if it happens while I'm driving, pull over I guess.

WOW!  So many people experience the same irritating things I do!  Everything you guys said applies to me, too, except Yo-yo's lightning storm.  That would be freaky!  Not that I'd wish any of this on anybody, but somehow misery does appreciate company! 

Marlee, what you described sounds exactly like a classical migraine to me (migraine with aura.)  I'm no doctor, but that would be my hunch...that or some other variation of vascular headache.  I used to get them all the time, and still do once in a blue moon.  When it starts, things just look a little "off."  Then I'll get one spot that's shimmering, like an arc shape on a tv weather map where there's a storm, and I know I'm in trouble.  It's only one one side at first.  Then it spreads throughout my vision and I have to close my eyes (and yes, pull over if I'm driving.)  After about 20 minutes that stops and the pain begins, and sometimes nausea and vomiting, too.  Mine usually last less than a day, and afterwards I feel just washed-out.  Until I got medication to weaken it in my 40s I lived in fear of these things.  I'd definitely talk to my doctor!

I suffer from "visual migraines" - I get the aura and zig-zags in my vision, but not the migraine pain. I've found it can be triggered by bright light, the types of patterns described in the posts here, and also by a black background on a website. I hate driving at night, because there are so many lights that trigger this for me..it's just a nightmare

I've had my eyes thoroughly checked by an optometrist and a neurologist, and there's nothing of concern structurally...whew! I just live with it and try to rest when it happens. Sometimes i get them daily for a period of a few weeks or sometimes it's weeks from one to the next.

Wow! I have a hard time with driving at night, and patterns also. I hate my doctor's office wallpaper, it looks like it's moving. It's unsettling. The lighting in grocery stores really bothers me, also. It's comforting to know I'm not alone in this... and not crazy.

I will say that I don't have problems with strobe lights, but video games drive me crazy.
