Don't some weeks seem like they are a month long? For me this one was, I don't know why. Always so much going on but that's what makes life fun and interesting. Some times I'm really ready to be bored!...lol OK, not really. Being happy is so much better.

Happiness and laughter has proven over time to actually be healing. Did you ever read or hear of a man named Norman Cousins. If you're very young maybe not but he's well worth reading about.

"Cousins served as Adjunct Professor of Medical Humanities for the School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he did research on the biochemistry of human emotions, which he long believed were the key to human beings’ success in fighting illness. It was a belief he maintained even as he battled heart disease, which he fought both by taking massive doses of Vitamin C and, according to him, by training himself to laugh. He wrote a collection of best-selling non-fiction books on illness and healing, as well as a 1980 autobiographical memoir, Human Options: An Autobiographical Notebook. Late in life Cousins was diagnosed with a form of arthritis then called Marie-Strumpell's disease (ankylosing spondylitis), although this diagnosis is currently in doubt and it has been suggested that Cousins may actually have had reactive arthritis. His struggle with this illness is detailed in the book and movie "Anatomy of an Illness".

Told that he had little chance of surviving (AS is not really deadly), Cousins developed a recovery program incorporating megadoses of Vitamin C, along with a positive attitude, love, faith, hope, and laughter induced by Marx Brothers films. "I made the joyous discovery that ten minutes of genuine belly laughter had an anesthetic effect and would give me at least two hours of pain-free sleep," he reported. "When the pain-killing effect of the laughter wore off, we would switch on the motion picture projector again and not infrequently, it would lead to another pain-free interval."

He was a living and surviving example that laughter is truly a great medicine. So in that vein let's talk about what makes you laugh. What was the last time you really laughed? Did you hear a good joke you can share? Did a child in your life say something darling or have you seen a movie that kept you laughing like crazy? What has made you laugh recently?

I'm going to let you all start this one. My Fibro Fog is especially dense tonight and I can only remember little snippets of the stories I wanted to share. Hopefully I'll remember before Friday ends...lol Please share your laughter~~

My children have always been able to make me laugh.  And over the years I've reminisced about the way the kids would say certain things.  Like when my son, Matthew, would say it was "Froggy" outside or my daughter, Meghan, would tell me her brother's were "Avergating" her.  Or when the kids would ask me to make "Pantycakes" for breakfast.

 

And just the other day Dannie's fiance, Ashley, told me about one of her daycare children who was petting the puppy and said "Wico (Rico) you have such pretty Feathers".

 

How can the innocence of a child not bring the biggest smile to your face?  It is the best!

chutz my friend i too am foggy but i do know laughter will get you thru anything n i do believe it is great for our health

I remember asking Cait something when she was about 4 4 an a half well the lil snippet put her hands on hips n said

DONT LET THE BLONDE HAIR FOOL YA.......

My family when we are all together, they are all nuts young and old. It is a requirement that you have to have a good sense of humor to be in this family. My DH and I both have a good sense of humor so we make each other laugh. But boy has it gotten us through a lot of rough times.

 

For instance at one of the grandson's bithday parties a water fight broke out, you don't buy water guns for this family cause it won't be the kids that use them, and one of the town cops had stopped by my son's house to get a hamburger, we were cooking out. Well, someone had a mixed drink, whiskey and Coke, sitting on the banister and youngest son picks the glass up thinking there was water in it and when he went to through it on oldest granddaughter she ducked behind the cop and you guessed it, the cop got drenched in whiskey and Coke, gun and all. Needless to say he was not happy. He dug a dirty uniform out of the trunk of the squad car and made my son wash his drenched uniform while he cleaned his gun and stuff the best he could. He went back to work and when he came back after his clean uniform my son brought out a pair of his son's dress pants and told the cop he didn't know what happened but his pants shrank in the dryer. He said you people are crazy and went in to get his pants and change. I can't remember if he ever did get his hamburger. Yes, he and my son are still friends.

 

I don't know why but things just seem to happen when all my boys are together.

My hubby has a sense of humour like Bob Newhart. He is funny and I laugh at him

daily. My friends have an incredible sense of humour too, so I hate to miss any

opportunity to hang out with them when I can. My, Mom, sister and daughter are so

funny that sometimes when we are talking together we are laughing so hard we are

crying. I have always enjoyed a good time and a good laugh. It feels good!

Laughter is the best medicne and I try to find some humour in everything!  turn

Several members of my family can make me laugh. My father and younger sister could always tell a good joke. They both had/have a strange sense of humor. I enjoy a good laugh, I have an off sense of humor, but I usually don't 'show' it to ppl till I know how they will handle it.

My DH and I sometimes will start to laugh just before we go to bed, usually over something really silly. We will laugh till we are crying, then calm down, only to start laughing again.

My younger son is a very funny young man. If I'm annoyed w/ him about something he will make some kind of joke and I start to laugh. He thinks he has made me forget what I was annoyed about. Silly boy! The five of us went out to dinner a few months ago at our favorite Chinese restaurant. We were about 1/2 the way done, talking about a lot of things - like my DD was on her 5th plate of food and not close to being full. (She is the most petite girl, and yet she eats like a longshoreman!) My younger son started on a story about this guy he and DD know. DS has to do voices for these ppl. He had us laughing so hard. I beg him not to do that when I just put the fork in my mouth. I was hysterical, tears streaming down my face. My evil DD took her phone out and taped it. I didn't know until my older son mentioned it to me. She had it in her computer by this time. I made her play it for me. I laughed all over again. BUT I did tell her she is not to show that to anyone who does not have my last name and live in this house. nono

One other thing I remembered that sets me off to laughing.  I can see total strangers laughing about something, I have no idea what is so funny, but I will start to laugh, too. Then it seems like I was listening in, and yet, I never heard a word, just saw them laughing really hard. Odd, I know!

Believe it or not, one of the most healing laughs I ever had was in my mother's hospice room as she prepared to leave us. My mother and dad had a long history of disagreeing over details of things - how much something cost, when they did something, etc. - and the standing joke was that she would always say to Dad "I've got the papers to prove it!", then go get the documentation proving she was right. My husband and I always laughed about that.

As she lay there in a light coma, she would talk sometimes. On evening my husband and I were sitting there when she said "Well, I'd better take those papers with me." Hubby and I looked at one another and said at the same time "She's going to have the papers to prove it when she gets THERE!" The nurses came into the room to see what we were laughing about, then we all had a good laugh together. It was so much my mother, and somehow it was very comforting to me.

My younger daughter, when she was about 3, was aggravating me (don't remember why.) It had been a long day, and I was at my wits' end. I said, "If you don't stop it, your mom's gonna crack!" She got a serious look on her face, pointed at me, and said, "Crack now." Then she waited to see what that looked like. My bad mood evaporated!
