flexeril?

hello everyone!  i was wondering if any of you who take flexeril can tell me if it works. also about the side effects.  i was reading about it and the side effects sound really scarey - crazy mental stuff.  like being really angry or really depressed.  also about becoming addicted to it and how bad the withdrawal is.  my rheumy just prescribed it for me because my neck and shoulder pain is so bad especially after i sleep more than a few hours.   i already take lyrica, buspar and imitrex for my headaches. also she gives me injections into my muscles that don't really help.  can anyone give me advice before i start taking it?

Hi Jenny,

I took flexeril and it didn't do much for me other than make me sleepy. But it doesn't always work that way for everybody. I didn't have any other side effects than that. I switched to soma which works well for me.

I hope that the flexeril works well for you for your muscle spasms. And tight muscles. Let us know how it goes.

Hi Jenny, Flexeril did not work for me either.  I could not function on it.  Soma also works better for me and I have never had an addicted feeling when I abruptly stopped taking it.  Also, I really did not like the muscle injections, they did nothing for me.   Good Luck

I take flexeril as needed for muscle spasms. I haven't had any bad side effects but I think the only reason it works for me is because I take some pretty strong pain meds and mixed with those it helps sometimes for breakthrough pain.

Hi Jenny, I've been using Flexeril (cyclobenzaprine) for a long time. My script says I can take
it twice daily as needed. I ony take it when I am flaring so it still works for me. It does help
take the edge off the pain but does make me groggy. I won't drive on it. I also take Savella.
I have been on it for 9 months and found it has helped some. I'm never pain free but over the
years I've been learning to cope with it.

Hope the flexeril gives you some relief!

Flexeril didn't do much for me, but as people have said, everyone's different, and everyone's mix of meds is different, so hopefully, you'll have better luck.

Jenny, I was given flexeril for my neck after a car accident and it did nothing for the pain but that doesn't mean it won't help you. Meds work differently on different people.

 

I'm going through the horrible shoulder, neck and head pain right now from foolishly picking up my one year old great grandson the other day and I find if I lay down and support my neck right it helps for awhile. I never go to bed during the day but yesterday I did cause I can support my neck better in bed than on the couch and when I got up it helped for a while. I feel like I need a neck brace to support my head to make it feel better and give the muscles a rest.

Hi Jenny,
I was taking flexoril and hated feeling so doped up and the dry mouth was a killer. I finally found True Calm by NOW brand
herbals which works the same way but without the side effects. The only thing I have with the True Calm is I am the one
in a million person who reacts to niacin upping the blood sugar. Luckily I don't do much sugar (but I do love my carbs) so it's
not too bad for the numbers.

thanx everyone...it doesn't sound like the stuff does anyone much good! the good thing i notice is that no one mentioned any of the wicked mental side effects that i read about. i guess you cant believe everything you find on the internet! so...maybe i'll try it if i get desperate.

Flexeril works wonderful for me.  I only take it when the pain is pretty bad.  The thing about Flexeril is that it is a saratonin booster, too.  So, it can make me pretty happy when I take it.  Though, it does make me drowsy, so I only take it at night when I don't plan on driving. 

I was given Flexeril about 10 years ago after a car accident and it didn't work at all.  But, it works well for me now.

I was given Flexeril to help manage pain in order to sleep.  Didn't do a thing for me.  I was even taking 2 pills (10mg each) a night and remained wide awake and in pain.  My new pain doc has put me on Skelaxin which works so much better.  It doesn't get rid of the pain but it takes the edge off and allows me to sleep and move more.

As everyone has said, this may not be the case for you.  What doesn't work for some, works for others.  Don't discount it until you've given it a try.  It may be your magic pill.
