I have the same condition as Donna. I use valium when I'm in the midst of a severe attack, and when I'm having just daily "dizzies" I use benadryl before bed. It's an antihistamine that helps dry up extra fluid, but it also (according to my ENT) is an inner ear stabilizer.
Try to keep your head as still as possible. No looking up, looking down, or turning your head quickly. When you have to turn to look at something, try to turn your body as a whole. Be careful of watching too much movement (tv, flashing lights, etc.) If florescent lights in stores bother you, sometimes sunglasses help. If you are spinning really badly, find a fixed point and keep your eyes on it. Closing your eyes can sometimes make it worse.
Are you having trouble with balance? Our balance is determined by our inner ears, eyes, trunk, and brain all working together. If one is behaving wonky, it can throw off your balance. Sometimes I have to use a cane when I'm having a lot of Meniere's issues.
I hope you feel better soon. I know how miserable it can be.
