Going to have surgery on the 7th.

Hey all. I am going to have surgery next Friday. I am going to have my tubes tied. I am a little nervous about it. My sister is going to take Alex for a couple of days so I can focus on recovering. I am going to be really sore for a few weeks after my surgery, and that is what I am nervous about. I just wanted to let you all know. I would appreciate any prayers and encouragement.

Sending prayers for a successful surgery and speedy recovery. Hope you are back on your feet in no time.

If you are having a laparoscopy, I hope you don't mind my sharing a little advice (I've had 4 over the past 20 years). If your doctor tells you too, be sure to lie flat for the first 24 hours. It really helps the gas dissipate and not cause mega shoulder pain. Also, I would try to move around again as soon as you are allowed to. The last time I had a lap I had much more pain in my neck and shoulders from lying too still than from the actual incisions. Gotta love fibro.

Prayers are with you Sassy. I haven't had surgery since the fibro has gotten this bad but I agree about the moving around as soon as you can. Does the doc that is doing it know you have fibro???

 

Not to compare you to a dog but when we had Krissy spayed I was surprised at how small her encision was compared to 16 yrs ago when we had Brandy spayed. Surgery has come a long ways for both humans and animals.

Thanks all. I appreciate it all. I had my appendix taken out in 2006, and the incisions were really small. But, I didn't have fibro then, and I was sore for quite some time even then, so my main concern is pain after the surgery. I am having it done laparoscopically (sp?), so while they are in there, they are going to see if they can find the cause of all the pain I have been having around there. I hope they find something they can fix. I'm really not nervous about the surgery itself. I didn't have any problems with anesthesia when I had my appendix taken out, so that isn't a concern for me. It really is a big help that my sister is going to take Alex for a few days when I have this done. That way I know he is being taken very good care of and I can just focus on recovering. I will let you all know how it goes when I have it done. Thanks everyone.

Sassy, I do hope all goes well for you. Hopefully, w/ very little pain! I had my tubes tied the day after my second son was born. They went thru my belly button, can't even see it now. I've had Fibro all my life, so all my surgeries have been w/ this stupid thing.

I'm glad your sister will be able to help out w/ Alex, that itself is such a blessing. Use that time to get your strength and energy back.

I will keep you in my prayers. Hopefully, in a few wks you will feel absolutely fantastic. yeah

May I recommend you read some of the medical studies about fibro and anesthesia? It's a good idea to talk with your anesthetist well beforehand, not wait until the day of surgery. It helps us fibro gals if we get pain meds and a muscle relaxant a couple of hours before surgery starts. Prevents a flare. I've done it both ways and I much prefer getting the meds beforehand. Once I premedicated myself - told them about it of course.
I have a dual reason for the premeds - fibro and post-polio. But the needs are the same. Stop post-op pain. A lot of us are sensitive to meds but need extra pain medication.
I believe in doing my homework.

I hope everything goes well!  Is getting your tubes tied the answer to the throwing up and the #2 or is this something else?

@rianna, I am not sure what has been causing that. I haven't thrown up since before I finished my antibiotic, so I suppose that could have been the kidney infection hanging on. But it is still possible that it is my gallbladder, so I am still going to talk to my doctor about doing an ultrasound and also that other test that tells whether or not the gallbladder is functioning correctly.
I will try to remember to talk to them about giving me something for the pain before the surgery. I am pretty sensitive to pain. And I will do some research about anesthesia and fibro.
