Definitely a love/hate relationship. I can't stand to be too hot or too cold. I grew up in a house that had 1 window fan. It was in the kitchen. I was about
14 before they bought another fan.
When we went to the stores yrs ago, the doors were usually open and maybe 1 fan oscillating behind the cashier. If we went to the movies when I was a child, my mother and I always brought a sweater. After the first feeling of coolness, it would be absolutely freezing in the theatre.
Most of my time at work we had no a/c, offices and such, but also in schools. I worked in an office that had a/c, and very relaxed re: dress - you could wear jeans, t-shirt and flip flops. I thought I had gone to Heaven! I almost froze my tookus off. I had to wear socks w/ my sneakers and a sweater. Everybody else was very comfortable, they thought I was 'too much'.
We have a/c now and I'm grateful, but I prefer to have the doors and windows open if possible. We were dying in the heat the other day, I didn't put the air on till later - because my elderly dog was having a hard time. My DH needs the air on in the car and the house. I rarely put the air on in my car, just to start to blow out the hot air, then off. I have to turn the vents away from me in DH's car or I get such a headache and shiver. Now, when it is cold out, all vents w/ heat are pointing to me.
I had the most wonderful boss yrs ago. In my office the a/c wasn't working and it was sooo hot. This man was not in the best of health, but he was so worried about me, he went into another office and 'stole' that a/c and switched them so I would be comfortable. That man also loved to cook and bake and would bring things in for me to bring home to my family. What a gem!
IF I have the a/c on at night, I have my flannel sheets and light quilt to keep me 'comfortable'. Yes, I am a Sugar Plum!
God bless. Alice.
