does anyone get tingling hands and occasional muscle twitches?

Hi everyone,

I have been lurking off and on. I am in the process of trying to figure out what is wrong with me. I did find out I have a moderate bulging disc in my lower back, but both neurologist and chiropractor said it would not be the cause of my wide spread pain and tingling hands. Even my arms hurt and that would not be from my lower back. I also get fatigued and light headed easily.... so much so that I went from intense exercise to barely being able to move on a stationary bike. I feel like my mind wants to go faster but my legs are too weak to. I feel out of balance all the time. The weird thingi is that a lot of my neuroglogical type symptoms sound more like MS than Fibro but I just had a brain scan and no lesions were found. I also had a neck scan and nothing abnormal was found there either.

My chiropractor thinks that since I have muscle twitches that it is probably anxiety related. I don't know why but I would rather find out I have Fibromyalgia then to find out I have a problem with anxiety. I guess because there is nothing I can do about stress. It's just life. I don't know what in particular woudl be causing me so much stress to have all these symptoms. Nothing out of the ordinary is going on. Just life with a five and a six year old. I stay at home, so no stressful job to worry about. Husband's job as a pastor is going well and I feel like I am enjoying life, other than my chronic pain. If anything, the anxiety is CAUSED from the pain!

I have my next follow up with Neuro on July 28th and I think at that time I will ask if I can get the tender point test done. Not sure if he can do it or if I should see a rheumotologist.

Hi Kellie, The neuro should be able to with the tender point test. If not he can probably refer you to a rheumatologist. I do get tingling in my hands and there are alot of times my arms hurt so bad it is hard to type. I also have tingling in my feet and when they do the pin test I dont feel it in alot of places.

Fatigue is another thing that is very common with fibro. There are days where I think if I let myself I would sleep all day. But then nothing would ever get done lol.

As far as stress having a 5 and 6 year old can be very stressful at times. I am glad however that you dont have to work along with taking care of them.

I will be praying that you get some answers soon.

Your description sounds exactly like how I feel.
I have all your symptoms. My hands really give me a problem.
They tingle and almost feel like they are burning.
Someone here described it as feeling like acid under your skin.
Sometimes I can sit and watch the muscles in my hand twitch. Creepy!
I agree with you that the anxiety is caused by the pain.

Yes, I absolutely do! It can be pretty severe and unsettling at times.

I get the twitching more in my hands, it is starting to fade some.

I get twitching in my legs from my fibro meds if I take two together or take more than two a day. It progresses from the thighs up into the abdomen, stopped my breathing for a few seconds at a time several times one day. So I stopped the Neurontin, which was only 300mg TID. I've started it again at 100mg at night only, because I can't sleep without something. But I still wake up at 3AM with pain.

1mg Valium stops the twitches. Might work for yours too.

Have you ever had your B12 checked? Symptoms like that can happen when you have low B12. Just a thought!

yep, had B12 checked and it was normal. I had pretty much everything else checked so far. My hands only tingling if I am using them a lot. And the twitches appear out of nowhere in all different places in my body, but they appear when I am completely relaxed, so I don't think it's from stress.

I get tingling sensations throughout my body accompanied by electric shock sensations, muscle twitches, pain, and severe fatigue. It's off and on most days. I had an MRI of the brain recently and they found 8 old lesions or gray matter. The neurologist thought it was old scar tissue. I have to get another one in 3 months but tomorrow I'm having an MRi done of my neck. My chiropractor did an x-ray of my neck a couple of weeks ago and found out I have arthritis, bone spurs, some type of nerve damage, and degenerative joint damage. They haven't completely ruled out MS but symptoms also match fibor pretty well. My chiropractor encouraged me to see a rheumatologist so my first appointment is next Tuesday. I have had all the regular blood tests and everything has come back normal but I was a little low on B6. I am taking 50 mg a day now from the suggestion of the neurologist. It hasn't been making any difference yet. Did anyone go through something like this?

wow, I get all those symptoms too, I was already prepared to hear that they found lesions, but to my surprise they didn't. I thought based on my symptoms that I had MS. I have the all over body pain too though which is more like Fibro. Sorry to hear they found 8 lesions-- I woudl think they would assumed it is MS at that point. Hope you can get some more answers soon.

I get the tingling in my hands even after carpal tunnel surgery!  My hands ache like tooth aches all the time.  I have numbness at times and pain that shoots down my arms from my elbow.  I am fatigued alot of the time and work and have 2 small (6 and 2)  to look after while my husband works nite turn.  I can sympathize with you on being frustrated and un nerved by the dr(s) not finding something.  It took me over 3 years to get it figured out!  I hope you can too!! It certainly sounds like my fibro diagnosis..........good luck with everything! smilewinkgrin

I can relate to the doctors not wanting to or knowing what to do. I had an ER visit, described my symptoms and they dismissed me with anxiety. My regular GP told me it was all in my head but he took no x-rays, just did a CBC and thyroid test. I did go to a different ER and that doc believed me. He did a cat scan and various blood tests. I switched GP's and have my first appointment with him next week. It's weird because I was rarely sick and saw my old GP. I guess since he couldn't figure it out, he decided it was all in my head. I knew to change doctors then. The lack of care really irks me.

How about D levels? I know it helps skin and fibro pain. I was really low (18), read a study that said to take 100 units for every 1 unit low. For me that meant 4000 units on top of what I was already taking in Calcium, multivitamin just to get to 58 (new levels 50 - 90). It helped my fibro pain a lot. I got my DH to take 2k units and his brown spots on legs from bups and bruises over 30 years disappeared.

It may not help nerves, but it might help pain over all. Toxic level is 10,000 units daily, so a couple thousand a day even in summer would be reasonable. I take 4k in winter, 2k in summer if out in sun part of day.

Tracy - sounds like your problem might be your C-spine. (or possibly shoulder) Ask for an MRI.

my D levels are fine- they are at 41 which is the low side of normal. I guess it couldn't hurt to take a little extra.
