I find that if I plan ahead for the pain and take my ibuprofen, it keeps the pain at bay. I don't wait until I'm in misery because it takes ten times as long to get the pain under control.
Last December my son was visiting and he wanted to go to DisneyWorld for his birthday. I ended up walking through the park and riding the rides from 9 AM until 6 PM! But, I planned ahead. Since I use ibuprofen and Tylenol I started taking it before we left the house. I usually take Ibuprofen every six hours and Tylenol every six hours in between the ibuprofen. That day, because I knew I would be doing sooo much I was not used to, I was taking a little more. I took ibuprofen and two hours later I took Tylenol and two hours after that I took ibuprofen again. At the end of the day, I had taken one one extra dose of each med. That wouldn't hurt me because I only did it one day. Because I did this, I had a great time and made wonderful memories. I was achy the next day but not in misery.
So, don't wait until you can't stand the pain any longer. If you are taking narcotics you do need to talk to your doctor about that. I control my pain with these two over the counter meds and some supplements.
