confused  Do any of you live near my area, indiana? I'm just wondering if anyone knows of a good Rhuemy that I might have some better luck with. I am so nervous to switch and end up with one that is like the one i have had. The last 9 months have been such a waste of time. I have not had all the test to rule out something else going on besides the Fibro. I have had no x-rays or mri's. Just a c-scan(on my head for the migraines), and that was done by the ER. The last couple of days, the shooting, sharp, stingy pain that goes from my elbow joints down my arms, has been shooting up towards my shoulder as well. it could be from my summer job but how would i know. I haven't even wanted to call my Rhuemy. He doesn't listen to me, and here I'm the one paying for my insurance, deductibles, and co-pays. Meanwhile though i get more and more worried. I have called some of the Rhuemies in the local yellow pages but most require referral from your pr. , and since i don't go to my new one until Aug.23..I'd like to find a Rhuematologist in the meantime.....I just feel like i need to get in. I wish I could help you mama but I live in North Dakota so have no advice on good drs. in Indiana. I will be praying for you that you find a good one and hopefully someone here will have a good suggestion for you.

I'm sorry I'm no help for Indiana either. :( Just wanted you to know I read your post though - and I can really sympathize with looking for a good doctor who will understand and THINK.

If you don't get a suggestion here, do you think your local hospital might have a support group for fibro patients --- if they do, maybe you could get a recommendation on a good rheumy there?

Or - have you looked at any of those doctor review web sites? Some of them record actual patient feedback.

I appreciate your support. It is so difficult to find a good Dr. as I'm sure you both know. It is so frustrating. Why can't they just be the best they can be, and not make you feel like an idiot or that you don't know your own body or when something is wrong? I guess no profession is perfect but with people's lives in their hands you would think they would take more time, and have more compassion. Thanks again, Heather

I'm from Indiana.

I don't have a special doctor, just my regular doctor but I love him.

I am from Indianapolis. I don't need a special Dr. just one who listens, cares, and is willing to help me..well..get back to me again. Thanks for any info.

Hope you find a winner, Mama. The good ones exist - but it seems we have to kiss a lot of toad-doctors (some seem actually like toxic toads!) before we get that prince.

There is a link on Fibro 101 that shows fibro-friendly doctors in each state.  Perhaps one is close to you.

Hi mama6, I live in Lebanon,In ,Used to see a dr. harry staley at indy rheumotolgists, there are other dr.s there also. he was nice but i felt i needed something more. started going to a pain management clinic where i see a dr. bush. she is probly on maternithy leave at the moment but they have several there also. I have fibro,osteoarthritis in my hands and knees which hurt all the time. i do get shots in my lower back for deg. disc disease which help and i,m due or again soon. I also went to see a dr. christopher Wu. he kinda brushed me off but he is sending me for a sleep study in aug. also read that IU medical center has good drs. there so i,ll be calling to check there also. I hope this helps. Let me know what you find out.

mama6, found names of drs. at IU. dr. wellington, he,s a pain specialist, need a referral by a physician,,, dr. riley snook, neurologist and dr. pascuizza,,head of neurology

Wow,

It is a small world in a sense, isn't it?  I am so glad that you have gotten responses that may help you.  And getting to know people that may live close to you.  That is awesome.  I just have to mention how I love this site.  I love how everybody comes together to help one another.

smilewinkgrin  You are all so wonderfull. Thank you for the great names of Dr.'s and to all of you that just responded to let me know you weren't close enough. I have to agree with Karen, I love this site!! The support and encouragement helps lift my spirits and has helped me to still have hope in finding who I need to help me. I will get in contact with the list I now have and will update you with any that work out. mad  No luck yet. I'm still in limbo waiting for someone to call me back. Just wanted to update. Pain is worse in hands and shoulders last couple of days, but imagine it will be til I get in somewhere.

Ok, finally have an app. with a Rhuemy, Dr. Reed in Indianapolis for Aug. 20. That's pretty funny they were able to get me in before my new pr. could(been waiting for two months). I explained the problems i was having, and that I wanted a second opinion so they said they would move things around and they did. Didn't even need a referral from the pr. Someone I know said that her husband used to go to him and liked him because he listened to you. Yeaah, hopefully. I had the worst night yet so far last night, so this is just in time.
Mickey the Rhuemies for IU could not take me without a referral and when i asked if they knew of one that did, the Recpt. got a snotty attitude. I tried explaining that i couldn't get one because of the change in pr. and hadn't had the app. yet but she was a little crude. Just an FYI..I thought maybe I don't want to go here. Good luck, I'll keep you posted.

mama6, sorry to hear she was snotty. hopefully this new dr. will help you. i have an appt. aug. 12th. with my primary so i,ll ask her if ahe knows of anyone else and she if she knows anything about the ones at i.u. I am also going to get a sleep study done the 20th. good luck. hope everything goes good .

eyes  Oh, I had the sleep study. Went to Greenwood to have it done. I didn't like the first one, I think because I was so nervous and going to be away from my kids. The second time was because they couldn't find sleep apenia so they wanted to see what else it could be. Then the third was because they found Narcolepsy..which I was like no kidding so that's why I fall asleep while driving. Sorry still sour about that whole Rhuemy. Sometimes I just need to let go, huh? Well,Good luck with your app. and the sleep study. Hopefully it helps. Where are you having it done at? Yeah that would be great if your pr. knows anyone. The pr. Dr. that I was recommended to takes a long time to get in to see and your visit takes awhile but I met another person that goes to her(besides the lady I work with) and she loves her. It's Nancy Stirling on Kentucky ave. Not her mom Maria though..she doesn't have good beside manner from what I hear. Heather
