does anybody go to a renaissance festival in costume?

If so how do you cope with looking looking the part but still having sturdy, comfy shoes on to walk almost all day in?  My friend has recently decided for me that I am going this year and now I'm trying to come up with a costume of sorts to go and be a dork in, but I'm hung up on the shoes.

I agree with Okie.  I've never been to one but my niece goes every year and her dress is always long enough to cover the shoes.

Be comfortable.  That's important.  I've been to these festivals but have never dressed up.  It was mainly the characters that dressed up at the ones I have attended.  But if you feel comfortable, then go for it!  It could be a "hoot" dressing up!

I am a card-carrying member of the Society for Creative Anachronism and have worked at various Ren Faires for more than 4 years. Firstly, I suggest you plan breaks where you can stop and rest while you see a show or have a snack. Secondly, look for some cheap Mary Janes in brown or black and put inserts into them. Thirdly, if you're not working there, then your comfort is more important than looking the part, so consider just using your most comfortable shoes ... especially if they are brown or black.
