ER Visit

Good Morning,

 

Yesterday I woke up with severe pain in my lower back area right above my backside. It is a burning type of pain. I took my morning meds (Oxy and tramadol) and I was able to fall back to sleep (after I called out from work) for about an hour or so. Woke up and same pain was there. It was so bad I could not lay on my side, I had to stand. My husband asked me if I wanted to go to the hospital, and I said yes. I get there, explain my symptoms and they take a urine sample.

I was given a muscular shot of dalaudid and a half of a valium. about 45 mins later they assess me, still in pain, I get another shot and the other half of valium. I was then wheeled over for a CAT scan. They felt is was a deep tissue muscular spasm. I kept asking about kidney stones, I had one once before when I was 8.5 months pregnant. They said there was nothing showing up in my urine sample to point there. CAT scan came back negative for stones. So I was giving a script for valium and percocet and sent home. Pain was still there last night. This morning it is there, but much less than it was before. I go to see my rhuemy this morning at 11:30.

 

Has anyone else ever had something like that before?? It was odd to me in that is was very different that my normal Fibro symptoms.

 

Just to be "normal" again...but I must say all in all....this is my first ER trip this year, compared to last year with the Lyme, blood clot and migraines... I think I had about 7 visits last year.

 

My FMLA paperwork will come with me today to my rhuemy, sure hope it goes thru for the intermittent time off.

 

I have a burning, stinging ache in the place you describe every single night and it's worse when I lay down...it keeps me awake and sometimes I'm  pacing around the room at all hours...going from the bed to the recliner to the couch.  It often radiates to my thigh and down the side of my leg...then to my knee.  But it usually starts above my hip...and in the butt muscle.

Hopegirl, I've had that type of pain before. It is very deep that radiates from my
lumbar region all the way down my tail bone. I've been to the ER for it too and
recieved a hypo of demerol. My doc had given me a script for vicodin and a muscle
relaxer. My pain is associcated with degenerative disc disease...nerve impingemnet
swelling and spasms. Do you ever get black and blue from inflamation in that area?

This might be totally wrong, but could it be bursitis? When my mother had inflammation in a bursa sack thingy it was excrutiating for her. A rheumy discovered what it was for her after regular docs scratched their heads. Maybe this isn't like yours - but just grasping for ideas.

Hi hope, I will be praying for you that your doctor can find a reason for your pain today. I know how frustrating that can be to be in so much pain and they dont find anything wrong at the ER. Hoping for some answers for you.

Sacroiliitis (inflammation of the sacroiliac joints) is another possibility. The pain can be excruciating. It can hurt across your lower back, down into your butt, down the middle into your tailbone, around the front into your groin, and down your thigh. It can even cause rectal pain.

I've had it for almost 2 years, and I've had pain in all of those areas. The pain tends to vary in intensity and travel, but my hip always hurts.

Wish I had good news to report, but I don't. This was a rushed appointment. I had my list, I told her everything that happened yesterday....and she said that basically because I have not been taking my neurontin, that could be the cause of my deep tissue spasm....I was disappointed to say the least, she is increasing my oxy now to 20 mgs still 2X's a day in hopes that I will not have to use break thru pain meds. She said I should try this, if no better we can try to increase it once more, or she has another pain mgmt person she wants me to try that is "better" than the last one she sent me to.

Since she is filling out my paperwork for my intermittent FMLA, I thought it wise to stay with her right now.....wish I had better news....
