Grrr... over a week since referrell to Rheumy... and still waiting on approval to make an appt!

How long has it taken everyone else to be approved to see a Rheumy? I don't even need approval from my health insurance. The neurologist gave me the referrel right away (been to him for a few months to get different tests, MRI's etc.) so I assumed I would hear back shortly from the Rheumy office to schedule an appointment. I had no idea it was such a long process! Neuro appt. was Friday the 20th.... I called this Tuedsay to check on the referrel and the lady at the Rheumy office said it was still sitting on his desk for review and he has to give it a "yes" or "no"... .what the heck? I am trying to figure out why he might say "no". I already got a referrel from another speicialist... already had ALL the possible blood tests, Mri's... etc. I've had chronic pain for 4 months and some other symptoms which nobody else can put a finger on....my only other option is to see my PCP but I think he has no clue about Fibro.

So, here's hoping I hear back soon and get a "yes!". There are only two Rheumy's in my town and this one came highly recommended to me. I heard the other one has a bad bedside manner.

Hi Kelly, sorry it is taking so long, usually when I am referred by another physician they set up the appointment right away so that I have the appointment before I leave the building. I hope you hear something soon.

Kellie, hope the referral is OK'd soon. Like Shirley I'm reffered by another doc and
their office set up the appointment. Good luck! Keep us posted!

Do you always need a referral when you go to a rheumy?

Torden, many insurance companies require a referral to see specialists.

wow, I wonder if it is different for those who are not diagnosed with anything yet? my insurance does not require a referrel, however, I have noticed most of the specialists in town require a referrel from someone else. I guess just to make sure they don't waste their timei with people who don;t need to see them. I just hope that my neuro gave them all the correct info. He tended to not really listen to me so who knows what he has in his notes.

Crazykitty: Ah, Bridget10 asked the same question I was about to.

Bridget10: I agree with the not really listening, I just went in for my Neurologist visit this morning and he would not even let me say how I was feeling or where it hurt or anything that you would expect. He just pushed and shoved in different directions and I was so confused.
