about a year ago I hurt my right knee. How did I hurt it? Now that could only be a fibro thing, I went into a change room to try on a dress.

Only to find when I turned around to close the door my knee decided it was going to go into spasm. I ended up on a seat and could not get off by myself.

I believed it was fibro but the pain was a 20 on the pain scale of 10, My DD took me too the ER to get it checked out just in case it was something else. I t wasn't and I walked out of the hospital on crutches which that was the only time I used them.

Well that knee is doing it again, not as painful well almost. I refuse to go back to the ER where they wanted to give me medication I was allergic too.

Has any one else ever haad this happen. I am stating to get sick of having to wait to night time when I knock my self out with the sleeping meds to get any pain relief.

Kathy, so sorry your hurting. I get knee pain off and on-usually if my hip isn't hurting, my knee is, and like you, docs say nothing wrong. Unfortunately it's a fibro thing-but I hate that. Sometimes I want the doc to say-well yes, this is what we've found-because I'm so sick of this imiganary illness myself. Sorry to vent, this is your post,lol. Hoping you feel better soon!

Kathy, have you seen your general physician to see what s/he recommends? You might need x-rays and/or physio on the knee, and perhaps some medication, but your doctor should know what is and isn't safe for you, medication wise. Depending on what is found during testing, you may need surgery on the knee.

I know that one thing many doctors say you must do is build up your quad muscles, as that will help alleviate a lot of knee pain. If your muscles aren't strong enough, then they can't do their job

Kathy, I have had all sorts of trouble with my knees over the years and not once was it fibro related (sorry to disagree with you saintsfan) so please don't assume that. Of course the fibro makes the pain worse but I would guess it isn't the main cause of your pain. There are a ton of possible reasons for this ranging from muscle imbalances to loose cartilage to ligament damage to ? And none of those are necessarily injury related. They can occur due to degenerative changes. I've got a knee issue going on myself right now and the dr believes that if it is a cartilage tear it would be due to degenerative changes. I'm going for an MRI tomorrow to find out what's going on in there. Anyway I'm trying to say please get this checked out at least by your pcp but an orthopedic dr would be the best choice if possible. Until then remember that moist heat is your friend. I hope things improve for you very soon.

I too have knee problems. I suggest using ice several times a day, and google "knee exercises". They will show you how to strengthen the muscles that support the knee.......the guads and hamstring especially. I never realized how important it was to keep your muscles around your knees strong. Also, its important to stretch them out on a daily basis too. Sometimes your knee cap can jump track, which can be very painful. Sometimes you can tear your meniscus.
Sounds like you could really benefit with some physical therapy, showing you how to strengthen your knee.

Years ago I had horrible knee pain. After xrays the doctor said it was the muscles on either side of the knee. Stretching exercises were the solution. Don't know if this is your problem but are muscles along the side of you leg tight?

Kathy, I'm so sorry to hear about your knees.  I had double knee replacement three years ago and never have any pain, but unfortunately I have scar tissue that has formed and they are both rather tight. 

 

Yours could be a number of different things, but you probably should see an orthopedic dr.  He's the one that found both of my knees had lost all the cartlilage in them.  Hope you get to feeling better.

I've had arthoscopy on my left knee 2 years ago and am 5 weeks into healing with the right one. I'm here to tell
you that x-rays don't show much other than arthritis. I've had 3 different knee specialists. The first one said arthritis
and I knew it was more so I went to a second one and got an MRI done and had a torn cartalidge and torn maniscus.
Got that fixed. In February of this year I was stretching when I woke up and felt the right knee rip. The dr said
arthritis after the x-ray and again I told him it was more. This guy did hyagalan shots and they didn't do much for
the pain so the MRI showed a torn cartalidge and arthritis scaring. I just had that done and it's taking it's sweet time
healing. It still swells at night and is tender to the touch, but I'm not getting any younger. Unfortunately, they're cutting
my disability off on the 15th and I'm not sure if I can return to work then as it's very painful and I work on my feet
on concrete 8 hours a day. Good luck with yours and if need be make sure to get an MRI as it shows so much more.

I have pain on the outside of the knee from sciatic nerve being pinched in the spine. I have pain under the kneecap on the inside of the knee from medial meniscus torn in a wreck. MRI showed tear. X-ray showed nothing broken.

The spinal shots have stopped working on the sciatic pain. Getting scoped tomorrow morning for meniscus. I hope recovery from that is better than from trigger fingers. Had them fixed in June and they are horribly painful every morning until I get them warmed up in hot water. Tramadol isn't working for meniscus or fingers.

Good luck with the scope. This new dr. got me right up (without crutches) and on my feet. I don't think that is
helping me any. I went to the fair and walked around for about 6 hours today and here it is 1 in the morning
and the knee is swollen up and I just took 1600 of hydrocordone and a skelaxin. Waiting for them to kick in.
I start physical therapy in the morning. Hope it helps.
