The fibromite at the tanning salon

My daughters got me a gift certificate to the tanning salon for my birthday.  Since I do not want to add wrinkles, I opted for the magic tan (spray tan).  My daughter works at the salon.  So I get there and the instructions: rub this stuff all over, then rub this other stuff where you don't want tan, wear the shower cap, push the button, stand like this, then turn and stand like that, then turn and stand another way, then turn and stand another way, then get out, wipe off with a paper towel, dry off with a real towel  So, of course, by the time I had turned two times, I could not remember how I was supposed to stand!!!  Oh boy.  At least I do not look like Ross on friends!

That is too funny, I also like Christmas at the Kranks when they went to a tanning salon.

I've never done the spray tan thing, but I use to love the tanning beds when I was younger (before my fibro days) and I remember once a friend of mine had this lotion your supposse to rub on before tanning, I don't remember the name of it but I know it had the word "fire" in the title. So I rub ALOT of it everywhere and tan for 20 minutes, well that night I was screaming in pain. I had severe burns EVERYWHERE, I didnt sleep for days, and basically ate ibprofen/tylenol like candy, I couldn't even shower. It was the worse sunburn ever!!!

So the moral of my story is.....if the word "Fire" is in the title of something, be VERY careful!!!!! Espcially if your putting it on your body!!!

I remember about 10 years ago or so, give or take a few, lol, my girlfriend had a tanning bed. It was the best tan I ever had. I was in it every day. I loved it. I don't tan well and it was so easy for me to just go over and lie in the bed. No tan lines either. lol...

Apparently this fibromite forgot more than how to turn in the spray tanner. I forgot to put the blocker stuff on the bottoms of my feet!!!!! They were dark brownish orange because calloused skin absorbs the stuff better. Yikes! I scrubbed and scrubbed with the foot sander thingy last night, then this morning.


Otherwise, the spray tan is really cool. No uv rays and nice brown skin.

Wow Robin...do I remember those days!! My mom was a sun worshiper...every single sunny warm day, she would lather up with baby oil and then lay out in the sun on a lounger. I think she did 30 minutes front and back, but I can't remember for sure. She was quite dark when she tanned and her skin was starting to get "leathery", but she still went out.

I'm not a great tanner...I tend to burn now first, so I try really hard to always make sure I've used sun screen. Fortunately, my hubby is good about using it all the time, so he often reminds me to put some one if we'll be outside.

I tried a tanning bed for a few free sessions that came with a gym membership I had. It was great and I loved the heat on my achy body, but I couldn't really afford to buy more sessions, and I didn't feel like I was getting tan...I still seemed to go red and burnt. Oh well...pale is in, so I guess I'm part of the in crowd now.

Robin...we would mix iodine with baby oil for that exra kick!  My friend and I would actually drench ourselves in this mixture and sit on a metal roof.  OMG.

I never tanned much--the redheaded freckled thing. I have freckles running into each other now. I'm glad to know that the spray tan is nice and brown though. I'm going to Cancun in Nov. and was thinking about a spray tan first. Will it look funny with my hair, though? Diane

It sucks that the tanning beds are so bad as far as the cancer thing goes b'cuz wow do they feel wonderful for aches and pains. I haven't been in a long time...no room in the budget...so it is probably for the best.
