Has anybody tried Savella?

No. I couldn't tolerate Lyrica, and so my PCP doesn't think it's worth it to try Savella. Apparently they are related.

Hi Suzi, I've been on Savella for over a year now. My rheumy initially gave me
2 sample triation packs so that would adjust very slowly as the dosage was increased.
I now take 50mgs. 2x daily. I was one of the lucky ones who did not have any of
the bad side effects. It did take almost two months before I could notice any help-
ful change. It doesn't seem to be helping as much and my rheumy is talking about
a dosage increase. I'm not sure if I want to go that route.

Have you started taking Savella or just considering it? Wishing you the best!

Thank you, Robin and Julie, for your responses. I am now taking Lyrica, Cymbalta, and Tramadol, and today my pain management dr. added Savella, which I have never taken. I'll start it this evening. Did you have any negative responses to it, Robin?

Suzi, I never had any bad side effects with Savella at all. I was initially was on Cymbalta but could not tolerate it...it made me really dizzy and nauseas. We all
tolerate meds so differantly...what works for one might not work for another.

I can't imagine being on Lyrica, Cymbalta, Savella and Tramadol all at the same time...Did your pharmacist question this? I'm not a doctor but I've never knew
anyone on this forum to be taking them all at the same time. I don't want to worry
you, I'm just questioning the reason behind it...to me it doesn't make sense.

Suzi, what I'm concerned about is Cymbalta and Savella are both SNRI's. I'm

wondering why a doc wouldn't wean you off the Cymbalta before starting you on

Savella.

Well, we have a very good pharmacist who has been our friend and pharmacist for upwards of 15 years. He's always given us good advice and questions anything he doesn't agree with. Our doctor works well with him, and they both know my history, so hopefully all will be well. I'll keep you updated, though. Thanks, Robin!

Hi All , I sometimes wonder about taking all these different meds. I am currently taking Lyrica and Lunesta to help me sleep. I was on the cymbalta but I could not take it , it made me really dizzy during the day and crazy at night and I havent told my rheumy that I stopped taking it I have an appt on the 6th of Oct. he has mentioned savella to me so I will have to see what happens. Also I always ask my pharmacist about taking all these meds at the same time so everything has been ok.

I took savella on the titration samples.. I was ok at 12.5 but the day I went to 25 mg, I threatened to kill someone... and meant it. So no more Savella for me. Even now though it was the dumb ladies fault.. I was pulling into a parking spot and this lady flung her door open and got out of her car, she looked at me and said "you almost ran me over".... all i could say was "let me pull out and try it again!". Pretty sure it was the savella cause usually not quite that bad! really I am not!

You should read up on seratonin syndrome so that you are familiar with the symptoms. Many docs won't let their patients take tramadol with Cymbalta OR Savella and you are taking both with tramadol.

Watch your blood pressure with the Savella, it can cause it to go up a lot.

I am not a doctor myself either but I would be afraid to add another to the mix but then again I take zoloft and tramadol upon occasion.  My doc just added 2mgs of abilify which I take at night.  I am wondering if taking it at night instead of in the morn is what is making the big difference in my being able to tolerate it because gabapention, cymbalta and savella have all been tried and made me lok and act high as a kite.  I hope the combo works for you.

When I started Savella I was also on Prozac. And I felt suicidal with the combo so I stopped the prozac and that feeling went away. HOwever I really don't see improvement on the savella. The only symptom it helped was the extreme exhaustion.. Hope you have better results with it.

Like some of the others have stated, I would be careful with that combo.  Tramadol mixed with an SNRI/SSRI can cause seratonin syndrome and we have had several members have this happen.  My doctor and pharamacist said the two drugs I was taking would not interact...they did.  Some people can tolerate the mixture but be careful.

I have added a link about Serotonin Syndrome in Fibro 101 but you probably didn't know it.  It's good to arm yourself with facts because we should all be our own advocates.  Doctors can make mistakes.  So, you might want to read this just in case these symptoms happen to you.  Much of this is from the Mayo Clinic.

I tried Savella and did really well on it. I was pretty much bedridden before taking it. It got me up and moving around again. I was cooking, cleaning, washing clothes and actually getting out of the house again. I hadn't done that in almost two years so this was huge for me. It felt really good to lift the burden off of my husband. Two months into taking it, I started getting really nauseous to the point that I was vomiting. I had to finally get off and now I'm back in bed again. I hope it works for you because when it does work, it really seems to give someone their life back. Good luck!

Savella caused me to become so dizzy that I fell into a door in my home and actually broke my neck. Anybody else experience that kind of dizzyness?
