4 weeks nearly pain free...then major flare

I am so frustrated! I have been feeling sooo good this past month that I actually thought my fibro was gone. I know that was wishful, crazy thinking, but I just don't get it. How can I go almost symptom free for a month and then out of the blue this pain hits? This is the most bizarre disorder! Now both sides of my neck hurt, muscles ache in both arms like I've been doing heavy lifting. Pain between shoulder blades, low back pain, sciatic nerve pain...on and on. I just feel like crying. I have to work and I don't feel like I can go another day. When my pain is this bad it's so difficult to deal with people (I work in retail).  I just wish I knew what causes these flares so I could stop them. I am grateful for the past month of feeling normal, of feeling good, but then when a flare this bad hits, it's that much harder to deal with because there was the "you" that was happy, that was active, that was taking part in her life,...and then there is the other "you" who is sad and in pain and retreating from the world. I am a Grandmother, and have the most beautiful 15 month old Granddaughter. I babysit her once a week ( I was doing more days, but couldn't tolerate it because of the pain). I love her so and she is so amazing! There again, the fibro kicks me down. It puts a veil of pain over enjoyable moments with my sweet little Granddaughter. I am sick to death of feeling this pain, and I am sick to death of feeling sorry for myself when it hits! I know stress can bring on flares, but I have been so happy that I was feeling better. I just don't understand why the flares happen. Thanks for letting me babble on incoherently. I feel a little better since I wrote this and had a good cry.

It's such a bizarre disorder, like you said. I sometimes get nervous when I feel too good (especially if I say anything about it - it's like that automatically triggers a downfall!) I used to feel that way, too, when I got terrible migraines on a regular basis - it got to where I was almost afraid to look up at the sky because things would start to look "too shiny," and then I was done for. Or I'd realize that I'd had lots of energy that day, and that usually meant 1) a migraine, or 2) I was getting sick!

You do always have to wonder with fibro - if you can pin a flare down to something you know you did, you may kick yourself, but at least you have a sense of some control. But when it's out of the blue, it just feels like you've been picked on by some unkind force in the world.

I know what you mean.  There is no rhyme or reason why many of the pains we have occur.  But, just the fact that you had that good period is wonderful and I'm sure there will be more like that.  When these unexplained flares occur, just look forward to the next good day because it could be tomorrow...or even this afternoon.  Keep the positive thoughts going and you will feel a little better.  Unfortunately this is a part of our lives but we can still have a great life and that makes me feel so blessed.

I,m sorry so many of has to suffer from this horrible disease. I to have had really good days and then it hits you and you wonder if it is ever going to end. But you never give up. I think about my 3 kids and my 4 yr. old grandaughter and those special people in my life is what keeps me going. They always bring a smile to my face. I just wish we had more awareness for others to understand what this is all about , how we really do feel. They have walks for cancer, diabtes, for heart, why not fibro. Is it because so many out there still doubt fibromyalgia. It,s real,and hundreds of thousands suffer everyday. I just keep hoping someday there will be a cure and our questions will be answered. For now we have to hang in there and keep going. Don,t let it get the best of you. Hoping everyone has many good days ahead of them. Chris
