Are there any canadians who are on this board how have applied for CPP? I'm from Ontario and have gradually reduced my work week from 40 hours down to 24 hours then 20 hours and most recently 8 hours (2 four hour shifts per week)  I attempted to go back to 20 hours weekly and just can't do it.  I think there comes a point when you have to say "enough" and realize it's time to leave the work force.  This is not an easy decision and is just as hard emotionally as it is financially but I see know alternative.  I would like to hear from anyone who has applied for CPP whether they were accepted or not and any difficulties they have encountered.  Thanks in advance to all who respond.

I'm in the process of applying for it right now. I am currently on long term disability thru my employer. I'm just having a hard time filling out the paperwork...it feels like an admission of defeat for me. I always assumed I'd go back to work but it doesn't look like that's going to happen.

At any rate, I'm still in the paperwork process, but if I come across anything that I can share with you, I will.

I'm in Alberta by the way...in Calgary

I haven't applied, but I'm in Ontario, and know a few people that have CPP disability.  What is important to know is that they will deny you the 1st time!  They deny all applicants unless you have a fatal disease because 50% of people just give up...that's alot of money the gov't saves!  Can you imagine how many people need, and have paid into this benefit and don't know this?!  Re-apply ...it's obvious that you have tried to work and you cannot (or at least not full time hours right now), so just keep this in mind.

hi megatired dont know if this will help when I was diagnosed with anklyosing spondilytis I was 30 and was told to apply for CPP disability and got it, and was on it til around 6 yrs or 7yrs ago. I gave it up when they found a new drug for my spine and actually felt good enough to work but realized this summer that when I am working am too tired to do anything else like staying healthy and looking after myself so now I am again retired, but getting back to CPP dis when I applied for it I had a lawyer who put in my initial application pro bono but I do remember that you have to send them all your medical documents and they take about a year to decide in my case anyway but they do backdate the pension to when you applied for it. I had been in the military when I retired so was lucky about med records because they do love a paper trail in the military.
