I have been diagnosed with fibromalgia since 2005 and i just found out about this site today. I have been reading through the posts and I am so excited!  The idea of having a fibro family is very comforting and to be able to talk about how I feel without having to explain anything is such a relief.  I have a very very supportive husband and he has done a lot of research and goes to my dr appointments so he understands as much as anyone possibly can without having it himself so I am very lucky that way, but to talk to others with fibro will be nice.

I do have a question. I have been experiencing pain in the back of both knees for quite some time and have not been able to get diagnosed with anything. xrays show a small amount of arthritis on my right knee. I am going for an MRI on the 12th and I am wondering what kind of answers I can expect.  Will it show tissues and tendons or just bones like the xrays?  I know I am probably not working this right, but hopefully someone knows what I am trying to ask. My right knee has "blown up" twice now when I was doing nothing but walking across the room. The urgent care doc said he thought I had pulled a ham string.  Has anyone else experienced anything like this? nono

Hi ema and welcome to our fibro family, you have found a great place to come for support and it is always nice for us to meet new people. Sorry you are having so many problems with your knees and as far as your question about the MRI they show alot more details than an x-ray. and yes they show the tissues and tendons. They are painless also and the only problem people have is if they are claustrophobic. Wait maybe not exactly painless because for me laying flat on my back for about half an hour is very painful lol. but for the most part it is kind of like an ex-ray only alot noisier. Im sorry you have to be here but I am glad that you have found us. Feel free to ask questions, vent if you need to or offer advice to the rest of us. Once again welcome.

Hello Ema, glad you've decided to join us! It is a relief to find a place where people understand you!! Sorry I can't help any with your knee question, though. I'm sure others will have ideas.

Hi, Ema, and welcome!  I'm so glad you found us and joined in!  Yes, MRI's do show muscles, tendon's and ligaments so they can tell if something is going on there.  Here is a link that helps explain it.  It isn't painful at all.

I will get pain in my knees but not behind the knee.  BUT, we have had members talk about that in past threads!  Hopefully those members will see your post and tell you about it.

 

Be sure to check out Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum.  There are links to good information about fibro and you will learn a lot there. 

 

I hope you get good answers with your MRI.  If nothing else, it will rule out other knee problems.  Let us know what you find out.  Don't hesitate to ask questions because we are here to help you.  Hope to hear more from you soon.

Welcome Ema, to our fibro family. I think it is wonderful that your husband is so supportive. I've had pain on the sides of my knees, but never in the back of them. The doctor I went to said it had to do with tight muscles on one side of my knee but not on the other. I guess this kind of pulled the knee the wrong way. Anyway stretching my legs and hamstrings etc. was the correction and the pain finally went away. MRI I had for another area was not painful and actually showed more arthritis than I thought I had.

If your MRI doesn't show anything serious it could be muscular and maybe your doctor could recommend some stretching exercises for you.

smilewinkgrin  Thank you so much for all the welcoming posts.  I look forward to getting to know as many of you as possible.  I wanted to let you all know that I went to the therapy pool (91 degree) at a community pool in a town near mine the other day and it felt wonderful on my whole body.  It did hurt my knee when the water got stirred up, but I will go back again and again for the way it made the rest of me feel.  If you ever get a chance to try it please do. I think you will be surprised at how much relief you get at least while you are there.

Heat and water exercise are both great for fibro.  You got both in one shot!  I'm glad you can do that to help yourself.

 

If you have a different topic or question, you can start another post.  It you have several questions right now, you can start a post and include all of them.  Just put something like "I Have Questions" in the subject line.  Hope this helps!

i am also quite new here and i was also so excited when i found this group of lovely people. i never thot there would be a group for people who could express their feelings and the problems they had with fibro. id have pain in my knee and altho it did start in the front its now sore in the back. i have arthritis in my knees and its very painful.i actually have it in most of my joints.they swell up and go very red and feel very hot to touch. i think even mild arthritis can be very painful.
i wish you well for when you get the mri and i hope its nothing to bad as life can be hard enough with fibro without other illnesses added on.
i think its great that your husband takes so much interest in your fibro as he will be able to understand as much as one can without having it himself.i will wactch for your post to see how you got on with the mri.,

Hi Ema, sorry I am so late in welcoming you to the family. I haven't been on the computer alot lately. I really think you will like it here, we have wonderful, caring and supportive members. Just wanted to say hello.  I'm on here sporadically due to my schedule but I do try to keep up with the post.  The folks here are very supportive with lots of great info. 

I haven't had my knees "blow up", but they occassionally just decide to give out on me suddenly.  With my OA in my hips and knees I do have pain in my knees from time to time.  Actually, the pain is always in my hips and then will shoot down to my knees....

It's great your husband is so supportive!  It makes dealing with fibro easier when your family educates themself and offers support and understanding.

Hi! I know this is pretty old, but I said I would let you know what I found out about the pain in my right knee.  I have a "big" tear in the cartlidge. I am scheduled for surgery the day before Thanksgiving.  I am not looking forward to surgery and especially not at holiday time, but I have to admit that I am relieved that it is something that can be fixed and not "just the fibromyalgia". So, I just have to put up with the pain for another 4 weeks. Piece of cake!

Hi Ema. I just wanted to wish you good luck with your surgery. I guess no day is a good day for surgery but just remember what waits for you on the other side-no more knee pain. And that will be a very good day. Take care and hang in there. It will be OR day before you know it. Lisa
