Hi Feisty Lady. I was on an anti-depressant for a while when I was first dx'd. It did help me sleep but I did gain like 10 lbs right away. At the same time I was having major issues with my cholesterol even though I was on meds for that. Long story short--I decided I needed to make some major changes. I stopped the pill because I was sleeping so well at night and now only take it occasionally. But my diet needed some work. I exercise a lot, but I guess I thought that allowed me to eat anything I wanted. WRONG. I have completely changed my diet per my doctor's orders.
I eat lots of veggies, fruit and steel cut oatmeal everyday. I also eat Greek yogurt, beans, nuts. I stopped all margarine and butter and just use a little of the spray I Can't Believe It's Not Butter and olive oil. I am a big bread lover but went to those little flat buns they make now. Maybe one slice of whole grain bread a day. Salads, salads, and more salads, but not boring. I buy good lettuce and chop celery, carrots, onion, bell peppers everyday. Lots of good low fat/calorie dressings out there. It took a few months but I lost the extra weight and actually feel better.
Yes, I am also sick of fibro but it is not going away. I decided I would do what I could do to make the rest of my life healthier. I always did exercise but it is harder now but I make myself do it. I walk every a.m. with my dog and do something every afternoon. Did you ever use an elliptical machine? I was using one at the gym and we finally got one. Easy on the joints. When I first used one many years ago I could only do 5 minutes. Now I do 35 to 40 minutes. Everything I do I start slow and always stretch after wards. If I don't stretch I stiffen up horribly.
Maybe make a few changes and keep a journal of what you are eating and what exercising you are doing. Then review it weekly and see if there are some changes you need to make. Sometimes we don't pay attention to what we are putting into our mouths unless we write it down.
