Drug test?

Has anyone had to take a drug test at their doctors?  I am not talking a pain clinic just my GP.  I do take Soma 3 x a day, fiorinal with codine, up to 8 a day for migranes and ultram not so often. 

I do take the soma 3 x a day and the pharmasist would not fill my script last week.  He did not care that I was taking it as prescribed and my insurance allowed the refill.  I went to another pharmacy and got it filled.

My doctors nurse said that everyone was getting drug tests but I was so surprised I didn't think to ask if it was EVERYONE or just those on pain meds.

I have no fear about not passing I was just surprised as The fiorinol  w/codine is the only narcotic and I can't imagine abusing something like that.

nope, never heard of that. I to take Soma 3x daily. The only place they give me a drug test is at my pain clinic. That is strange, I wonder if he may be under investigation?

Nana, I really don't know, it is not like I am getting vicodan, oxy's or dilaudid or something. He has never offered any of that stuff nor have I asked. Not ready to go that route yet.

Hi Denise, why are they doing a drug test when they know what meds you are taking as they prescibed them. It doesnt make alot of sense to me. Are they checking to make sure you are not taking drugs that arent prescribed? I have never had to do this but I guess they could if they wanted to I have nothing to hide either.

Shirley, My doc is off till the middle of the month, neck surgery from a car wreck. I only saw his PA who I can't stand but I am going to ask him at my next appt.

It would be worth asking why, but there have been members that had to take blood tests monthly that were on narcotics.  But you aren't on a lot.  Maybe new rules have been set up.

I have yet to have to take a drug test for my doc, but once I started on Lortabs last spring he had me sign a contract that I would only take the medications he prescribed and as he prescribed and that I could be subject to a drug test at anytime. They explained it me that they had had other patients that would get a script from their office, then go to another office and another pharmacy for the same medications and that they would monitor the levels of each medication. I dunno for sure, but I am thinking that there are entirely too many people who are either abusing their medications or selling them and though they may not realize or care, it affects more people than just them.

Mybe it has something to do with "trying" to get an appt at a pain clinic.  I am having a hard time getting my rheumy's office to send my diagnosis and notes.  I had an appt as far back as sept 7th.  They canceled it because they did not have the paperwork but my doctors office did send the paperwork.  This clinic is listed as having a doctor who deals with Fibro.

I would figure that if I ever get into the pain clinic I will not get any meds from my doc.

Mrs cavbar, I do know that there are people out there that sell their meds and fake symptoms to get more meds.  I guess I will find out what is going on later in the month.  I was just taken aback at the drug test which I don't mind taking.  Thing is, some days I don't take anything and others I take more than prescribed (tolerance, I guess)

I am on a contract at my doctor's office because I am on their pain program. I get drug tested fairly regularly. They want to make sure that I am only taking what I am prescribed and that I am not selling what I do get. It's a pretty common practice I guess. So, I wouldn't worry about it. It really isn't that big of a deal.

I know here in my area of Florida, they are shutting down many pain clinics because they are dispensing too many narcotics.  So, this is a way for your doctor to protect himself I would think.  It certainly won't hurt you and it would be good to know, too, if you are starting to be negatively affected by what you are taking.

When I go to my pain management doctor I get drug tested fairly regularly. I asked why they said all of there patients get tested not just me and its for insurance purposes. It's a pretty common practice but other than that I dont get tested anywhere else.
