cry   cry cry How am I going to make it through this winter when its already so cold here and with Jay out of work we havent even turned the heat on yet for fear of the heating bill.  Yesterday I spent the day in my old flannel robe and pj's.  I just could not get warm.  I'm using my ssi check to pay the rent and I spent my birthday money to pay other bills as Jays case was denied from unemployment after they looked at what his old boss had said and then got Jays side of the story and believed the old boss!! what the heck? the guy couldnt even say what hours Jay had worked let alone the way Jay had been totally abused at the job fomr day one.  He only stayed there 6 weeks before having to leave because the guy refused to even talk to him about chores to do each day.  So now he has to appeal and that could take for geez like another month and what happens if that still comes back bad.  He has been looking everywhere and even online and there isnt anything over here right now.  Can I stay holed up in my bed until spring?  Im so depressed and hurt so bad and I dont even have anymore tears left.  Just want so much to pay our bills and live our lives just like so many of us do.  Its just not fair...

Karen, what a terrible situation to be in.  Yes, the cold is causing some of the pain but your stress is causing even more.  I know I'd be a basket case in that situation, too.  Just keep stretching and doing deep breathing and Lamaze breathing.  That does help.

 

Has Jay looked at places like Walmart?  They are starting to hire around here.  With the Christmas holiday coming up, more places will be needing extra help.  If he gets his foot in the door he might become a permanent employee.  Maybe he could go fill out an application...ahead of the rush of people...and get called soon.  Check grocery stores, department stores and restaurants...even McDonald's.  I've seen several "Help Wanted" signs around where I live.  Even if it's something he doesn't want to do, at least every little bit will help until he finds the right fit.  Oh, by the way, I just read that Kmart and UPS are hiring!  Yep, Christmas is coming!

 

Try to look forward to this week.  If Jay will "hit the pavement running" and look for a job, this might be the week he gets one!  I'll be praying for you.

Dear Karen, I know how hard it can be at times like this, I have lived through several of these rough spots in my lifetime and I also know how depressing it can be. I have found with my faith in God that somehow no matter how rough the road we have always managed to make it through. Like Sherrine said he might want to try for a job where they are looking for help through Christmas just to help out some. I will be praying for you.

When I am cold and I am too poor to turn up the heat...I use an electric blanket while I sit on the couch! I have one there and one on my bed. You wouldnt believe how your cold, stiff muscles will feel under one!
Sorry for your problems...keep a clear head and things will get better soon!

Karen, we are self employeed and believe me I know all about money woes.  Hubby does specialty type landscaping and this has been the absolute worst summer that we have ever had.  Any of "my" money goes to feed the animals or for shots, vet bills ect.  I did and do work sometimes for his other company, (I do all the shipping and billing) and my first paycheck this summer bought a cheapie blue pool. 

When I worry I don't6 sleep too good and when I don't sleep well I freeze.  I have had the wood burner fired up for a while now.  I can't turn on the heat, the furnace is broke and the upstairs is geothermal and the pump that circulates the water is broke so no heat upstairs either, thank goodness for the woodburner.

Sometimes when I am cold on the couch I will lay on a heating pad.

The best advice i ever got concerning pain and cold is this...Faithfully take 2 very warm 15min showers a day- one in the morning and one at night. sometimes i will even do it at noon on bad days. Also a mattress pad warmer is a blessing and a very good investment- keeps you warm and relaxed- which promotes good sleep which is key to feeling good and having less pain. Another thing that works well is using hand and feet warmers- the kind hunters use- to prevent coldness when you have to be out and about in the winter weather.
