HELP!

I have just recently started with severe neck and shoulder pain caused by me doing absolutely nothing. I have been going to a chiropractor for over a year now for bone spurs. So the neck pain comes and goes with that but never lasts this long. My mother has firbromyalgia and I know that it's hereditary. To those who suffer day to day with Fibro, does this sound like the first signs of firbro? Thanks in advance for your answers and help.

I wouldnt necessarily jump to the fibro conclusion. There are soooo many things that your neck pain could be from. If I had a family member who had fibro, I would try to live a pretty toxin free life...less chemicals for cleaning more natural stuff instead, limit preservatives etc. That's just me. It seems as if there might be a link between a toxin exposure and making fibro come out of dormancy...but again that is just my belief. I also had severe allergies when I started having problems, so go figure.
When I was first Dx with fibro, like crazykitty said it felt like I had been run over. I thought I was dying and went to the ER a couple times because I couldnt stand the pain. Sounds like this is more common than not. So I wouldnt jump to any conclusions just yet.
You prob should see your doc if it is concerning you that much and/or it persists for too long.

My neck & shoulders have been in constant pain for three years and only recently did the doctors put the fibro label on it. In fact for three days, I haven't been able to move my neck at all without cringing in pain (from doing nothing) but that doesn't mean that you have fibro. There are alot more different (difficult) symptoms that each of us feel. Muscle pains from over-exerting or doing nothing are common, but so isn't the constant fatigue. I have suffered from insomnia for 8 years, anxiety for 7 years, depression 10+ years, migraines 7+ years, inability to stand any type of pain (since birth, I pass out if injured at all). It was only recently that severe joint pain, muscle spasms and nerve pain joined in on the symptoms. I would say that I didn't really start major symptoms until my youngest son was born and it began with migraines & insomnia, while I think symptoms were present but not really a problem. I could handle all the symptoms until recently when head to toe muscle weakness, stiffness and pain became the constant presence in my life.

My rheumo doc stated that brains of fibro patients distinguish pain signals differently than others, pain thresholds are lower and MRIs of our brains can indicate when flares are present or pain stimuli.

I hope you find out what is causing the pain, maybe try a supportive pillow or neck traction (helped me bigtime in the beginning), followed by hot showers and heating pad. If it continues for 14+days, I would recommend a MRI to rule out neuro problems.
