Anyone else been told they cannot get the shingles vaccine?

I can't get it because I'm allergic to most vaccines. Actually the allergen is the junk added: gelatin and sulfite preservative. I could take it, but I would need to take Benadryl every 4 hours for a few days.

I reacted to the pneumonia vaccine I was given in a hospital. I was told I HAD to have it even after I said I reacted to Flu vaccine. Doc didn't believe me, gave me 1 Benadryl, refused more. I had my hubby bring me Alevert which works well too.

Hi, Alice. Thanks for replying to my post. Wow!  Why don't doctors listen to their paitients, eh?  I'm glad you were able to control your allergic reaction w/antihistimines.  Your reaction could have been much worse. They say that each time a person is exposed to an allergen, the allergic reaction can get much worse.  I was told I couldn't have the shingles vaccine because of the fibro.  I did have my flu and pneumonia vaccine shot yesterday, and so far no adverse reaction. I was a little worried, because I don't believe I have ever had a flu shot before. So...Iwas just wondering if anyone else had been told the same thing about the shingles vaccine.  Thanks for your input.  V

Several years ago, I had shingles.  When it subsided, they gave me the just out shingles vaccine.  I had no reaction to it and I've had fibro for 30 years.

  However, I have never had a flu shot or a pneumonia shot because I'm afraid of a reaction. Go figure!  Its just me I guess--I just have a gut feeling I wouldn't do well with them because I'm med sensitive to what ever they can talk me into.

Vannie, my doctor has been encouraging me to get the vaccine!  I've resisted so far.  It is covered by my Medicare Part D provider at the second tier.  So that isn't that bad.  I do have an appointment later this month and will discuss this with him again.  I just had a friend get shingles....she is 61 years old....and she said the pain is so bad.  She takes about a half a dozen pills for it!

Here is a link from the Mayo Clinic about the vaccine and there is nothing that says people with fibromyalgia shouldn't get it.

Uh-oh!  Maybe I misunderstood the doctor's receptionist. Maybe I can't have the Shingles Vaccine because of the Inflammatory Arthritis. Hmmmmmm.  Maybe that is the issue, and not the fibro...

I had shingles several years ago. It was not fun. But, I went to the doctor right away and took some anti-viral med that limited its course, thank goodness!

I had the Shingles vaccine with no adverse reaction. Neither my Rhuemy nor my neurologist said not to. Actually...I don't think I even mentioned it to them.
