Do any of you have a problem with the sun and heat?  When I'm in the heat for awhile weather from being outside or from taking a hot bath I feel like I retain the heat in my body.  I just wondered if you've ever experienced any of that?

I do. Feels like I retain the cold too. I had just decided that I cannot tolerate too hot or too cold of weather due to my age (I am only 42). Maybe it's another fibro thing?

Totally. Same as Shannon, too much heat and too much cold are equally as bad. In the summer I am always putting ice packs on my neck and in the winter I am always under an electric blanket! Go figure!

With me it's the opposite, I'm almost always cold. But if I do happen to get too hot, it's much more unpleasant than it used to be. Like everything else!

Hi All,
I can totally agree with you all i go through the same thing here. I also wondered if anybody has problems with profuse sweating i am going crazy with this problem it is very embarrasing.

I have excessive sweating as well. My mom was wonderingg if maybe I am perimenopausal..at 35! I have been having hot flashes for 7 years, but lately they have gotten ten times worse...and are followed by extreme chills! It's hard when you are panting from sweating one minute and freezing the next. I once went outside in the winter to help me cool down, followed by putting my jacket on to warm me up under the blankets.


One thing I can't get used to is the cold actually hurting my skin. I was so difficult swimming this summer, water below 75 not tolerated by my skin, muscles and joints. Heat is much better...I could never sit in the sun 3 years ago, now I can sleep in the sun (with sunscreen) and feel great. My best friend is my heating pad!! Eases the sore muscles in my entire body. Last night I slept with a thermacare patch on my shoulders as opposed with the heating pad (I know I'm not supposed to sleep with the heating pad, but sometimes the pain is just too much).

When dx with hashimoto's (hypothyroid) I was so hot that I could never where a sweater (or a coat), now I am constantly cold (7 years later w/ thyroid corrected) and wear one/two jackets during winter.

I have excessive sweating too. So embarrassing at times. I chalked it up to thyroid problems and my meds. Hmmmm...maybe yet another fibro joy?

I have fevers too. Not high ones but they come and go and I never know why. Do any of u have fevers?\

hi all,
i suffer terrible with sweating, which is so embarrassing, i get slight fevers and if im having a hot bath, i will be boiling for hours, if i get cold, i find it very hard to warm up.
its nice to know im not on my own, i thought it was just me going insane.

I sweat a lot also. There are times that I feel very hot like a fever and when I ask hubby to feel my head it is always cool to him. I don't have any ideas to throw out there.

Today has been a bad day for me for this. I walked out of the house this morning being very hot and was hot all the way to work. After sitting in my office for about 30 minutes I became cold. I turned my personal heater on and when I started feeling warm enough I turned it off. As the temp started to drop in the room I started getting hotter (this makes no sense) and started sweating. Half hour later I'm freezing again and have chills and turn the heater back on. I have been back and forth all day. Have been extremely tired today too. My shoulder muscles feel heavy and fatigued. I had to lay my head down twice today and rest my arms on my lap just to get some relief for my shoulders. I've been extremly foggy-headed today too. In 20 minutes I am out of this office and will sleep in the carpool on the way home and plan to lay down and rest when I get home. Will probably go to bed early again tonight. Was in bed by 9:30 pm last night and even had a 2 hour nap yesterday. I should not be this tired.

Excessive response to heat and excessive sweating are common reactions to medications used to treat fibro. Before blaming the disease, I'd take a look at medication information.

A sudden really bad case of sweating, feeling overheated and turning red can be an indication of Serotonin Syndrome. I've had this several times with tramadol, when in combination with other medications, but more recently with tramadol alone. I was just switched off tramadol for that reason. I was put on Cymbalta, which I haven't taken yet, but that's another one that reports "hyperhydrosis," and I will be watching my reaction with apprehension.

Heat is a huge issue for me. I sweat in anything over 69 degrees, I get dizzy and nauseas, and I only wore a coat (in the Midwest) twice last yaer. How do all of you cool down when you have to be in a meeting or something?

I have the symptoms mentioned above: retaining heat/cold, excessive sweating, slight fevers, feeling feverish, with no change in temperature. I am not on any fibro meds. The only meds I take are for allergies: Allegra and Aste-Pro (not sure of spelling). Both have been part of my daily routine for years, yet only within the last 2 months have I been dealing with these strange symptoms.

I am very senstitive to heat and cold.   Expecially  heat though.  I will get overheated so easy, I even have to keep it relatively cool in the house.  My face will get very flushed, I have hot flashes which started when I was 21 and have gotten much worse.  I also have mysterious low grade fevers that come and go and my blood pressure is slightly elevated one day and really low the next.   I have beeen so glad to heart that I am not alone. My boyfriend teases me (in fun) about my warm, red face often.
