Floating back pain anyone?

Hi there,

I want to know if anyone else experiences floating back pain like I do. What I mean by that is, my pain moves around to different spots in my back in an instant.  For example, yesterday my hubby was helping me hook up my tenz unit. No sooner did he get the little rubber pads on and the electrodes plugged in, my pain had moved to another spot. So, he puts muscle rub in that spot and BAM, it moves to yet another spot. From inbetween my shoulder blades to the very middle of my back right on my spine, then down to my lower back, then up just a little farther but out to the sides. I find myself not using my pain patches anymore cuz I tell myself "Well, what's the sense of putting it here cuz it's just gonna move somewhere else in a second."  Does anyone else have this?

My pain floats all over my body.  I can be limping terribly and a few minutes later I don't have that pain....it moved to my shoulder.  Yes, moving pain is quite common with fibro.

Ms mike, I have a Cervical herniation i had surgery in 2004.. I understand the floating pain. I have it all the time. It probably is coming from one nerve impingement that travels in those area's you mentioned. BTW... do you have a disc problem??

Yes, and I hate it to pieces! Mine is usually on the left side, but it moves up and down a lot.

Yes, I have this too, but my floating pain is in my ankles, knees, elbows, feet, wrists.  My back pain is usually more constant but does move from side to side.  I have 2 bulging discs, one of which is torn, so my back pain is different.  One day my lower left back might hurt, but usually it is the right low back/hip.

Ya know, when this floating pain flares, it always ends in the same darn spot in the middle of my back. I could put a pin on that spot. Makes me wonder if I have a disc problem. Will disc problems show up on xray? So far the only Dr that even came close to ordering an MRI for my back was my neurologist and I stopped seeing him since I was diagnosed with fibro. I wonder if my rheumy can order an MRI?? I'm adding it to my list for next appt. Everytime I go see him I have a LONG list. I'm feeling some better since starting the cymbalta. Tonght I take pill #6.

Nope, disc problems will only show on an MRI unfortunately!
