Does anyone have issues with hair loss? It seems like every time I comb my hair I get a fistful of hair.

Hi bridget and Im sorry but I just cant resist this one. I have no hair it all fell out with chemo but I did have the experience of fistfuls of hair. lol
You are so going to think I am picking on you and maybe I am but not in a bad way just a fun way lol.
I did have that problem when I was younger too though for me it turned out to be the shampoo I was using. Once I switched it quit falling out. I had very thick hair though so it was never noticable.

Medication can do that.  I don't know what you are taking but I've taken things that made my hair fall out, too.  Once I was off it, it went back to normal.

Shirley, I am sorry to hear you had to go through chemo! i hope you are better now. I switched to natural shampoo and conditioner but maybe it doesn't do as good of a job of strengthening my hair. I was just wondering if hair loss was a problem with most "fibromites"

I have the same issue with my hair, just running my hands through it brings out quite a bit. I have to admit though that I have been having problems with personal care or rather lack thereof so I have attributed my hair loss as a result of poor personal care. I really am ashamed to admit that I do not bathe like I know I should and I don't know whether to attribute that to the fibromyalgia or the fact that I have chronic major depression. I do know that even with the depression I took better care of myself until I started having the immense amount of pain from the fibro.

Mine must fall out while I walk.  I have one of those cordless Shark sweepers and the roller/brushes get jammed with hunks of my hair every time I use it.  I wanted to think it was the dog...sadly, no.  I also read that hereditary baldness comes from the female side of the family.  Hmmm.

Definately! I loose so much hair, I can't believe I have any left! And it's extremely dry and breaks and I have tons of split ends, even if I cut it every 6 weeks. I use good shampoo and conditioner...and this started well before I was taking any medication so I can't blame it on that one. Very frustrating! :S

my hubby always says our tile kitchen floor it trying to be a carpet lol , i sweep it every day but there is always tons of hair from me , when i brush my hair the floor in the bathroom has a nice pile .. dr says it could be any thing from homones to vitamins ..

3000mg of inositol [a b-vitamin] for at least 6 months and 100-200mg biotin[a b-vitamin also] can work to regrow and revitalize the scalp. after 3 months or so if your not seeing a difference but it's very good for you as a side effect. high dose but safe but still check with your doc first. good luck to you.

I'm having the same problem. I lose tons a day, and I'm even having to brush it differently to cover up the thinning. I've lost an excessive amount in a short period of time without any definable reason, except I had a horrible stomach virus earlier in the year, and I know that can cause "telogen effluvium." I saw my gyno recently for an unrelated problem, and she told me to take biotin (she recommended the highest dose I could find) but didn't really seem too concerned.

It conerns me, so I'm seeing a dermatologist who is pretty thorough next week. It is what it is, and if it doesn't stop, I'll just deal with it. However, I don't want to ignore some kind of deficiency or metabolic disorder if it needs to be addressed. I'll keep you posted on what he says.

Recently I've had a problem with hair loss but I think mine is due to stress at work this year.  I was advised to start taking Biotin also and sure enough it has quit falling out and I can tell it's a little thicker now.  You can buy it over the counter at Wal-mart.

you must get the high-grade vitamins at a health-food strore or the vitamin shoppe or 90% you will get a product that when taken will not be absorbed and become bio-available.
