Hi Mary, I think on the days that we are feeling better there might be times when we dont have as many of the trigger points as we normally would. I also think that if you have taken any type of medication you might not have as many trigger points as normal. They are going to a different type of protocol now to determine whether or not it is fibro. Hope this helps.

I have definitely had times where I didn't have even enough to qualify for the diagnosis. Last time they checked while in a flare I had all but two - I never have the ones on the knees :)

I didn't have all the tender points when examined but I was on ibuprofen and Tylenol at the times so that does settle things down for me. They are now saying you don't need all the tender points to be diagnosed with fibro. Since the doctors aren't sure what is causing this illness, things change all of the time. They once thought fibro was an inflammatory illness. Now they say it's not. They now think it's a neurological illness. Time will tell, but at least they are now really studying this!

I was told that you don't necessarily have to have all the trigger points. I had quite a few, but not all. Hugs~

Mary
I don't have all the trigger points, never did. It started in the one on the left hip/lumber area. It was white light pain - I would need to be on a morphine drip if I had all of them at once. But it is like a travelling show for me. One day, perhaps after resuming knitting during the winter months, or for no particular reason, a flare would appear in my hand - my left meaty area of the thumb. It sounds trivial but, I couldn't turn over in bed, pull up sheets, couldn't do much really - well, it was much worse than say a break.
So for me, even on 150g Lyrica, I still have breakthrough pain, and it travels around and settles near the trigger points usually one or two at a time - believe me, I couldn't take the pain if it were more, and I would be totally immobile. It evenutally gets around to all 18, in its own time. I've learned, and still learning, what triggers the flares and what's good for them, or should I say how to minimize them. I have more of the overall severe 'flu-like symptoms - you know what I mean - the body screams for you to stop and drag yourself to bed.
I've been diagnosed by a general practitioner (family doctor) and a Rheumy. I've been categorized as moderate to severe fibro.
Mary, I hope this helps, hearing from another fibroite.

The criteria at my Dr's (and I read online) is that for initial diagnosis they say 11 of 18. When I was there I had all of them. When I went back for my first followup after taking Lyrica, I didn't have as many.
